Andrew Flintoff Joins Brisbane Heat for 2014-15 Big Bash Season
Andrew Flintoff has been confirmed as Brisbane Heat's newest recruit for Australia's upcoming T20 Big Bash League, with the former England international set to join up with the team in December.
The long-rumoured move was finally confirmed on Thursday via the Big Bash League's website and Flintoff—who will rejoin former Lancashire teammate Stuart Law, now Brisbane coach—expressed his delight with the deal:
"I’m excited to be coming back to Australia and especially to Brisbane which has always been a favourite spot of mine to play. Stuart and I have had a few conversations and I’m clear on what we’re looking to achieve in the competition. The Heat squad has some exciting talent and I’m looking forward to catching up with Dan Vettori again.
"
The 36-year-old all-rounder and 2005 Ashes hero—who retired in 2009—made a return to cricket this summer, playing for Lancashire in England's domestic T20 tournament.
Cricket writer Lizzy Ammon believes Flintoff could be very effective in the Big Bash tournament:
Indeed, in his pomp he was one of the most entertaining players in world cricket, and there will be many fans eager to see if he can reproduce some of his previous form for Brisbane.
