WWE NXT: Full Preview, Rumors and More for October 23

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 23, 2014

Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for the Oct. 23 episode of NXT on the WWE Network. Spoilers are already out there, but if you want to know what will happen without having the matches spoiled for you, you're in the right place.

WWE's main focus might be Hell in a Cell right now, but NXT will provide you a little break from all the pay-per-view coverage.

The developmental system is back to its usual format of five matches, but the standard formula no longer seems to apply. This week, we will see two different tag team matches instead of the usual one.

Let's take a look at what NXT has in store for us this week.

The Women

After a few weeks off, everyone's favorite bubbly Diva is back in action. Bayley will be taking on Sasha "Call me ratchet and I'll kill you" Banks in the only match featuring the women of NXT.

These two have been pursuing Charlotte and the NXT Women's Championship for the past couple of months, so this match might be a good indication of who will end up challenging the champ.

Banks and Bayley have been in the ring multiple times in the past, so they have built up enough chemistry to be able to put on a decent show.

Bayley has had a few chances at the title, but Banks is still waiting for her shot, and defeating the previous No. 1 contender would be a great way to get her foot in the door.

The same goes for Bayley, but it seems like her time has come and gone, at least for the time being. With the next live special scheduled for December, it makes sense to start the build now, which is why one of these women needs to emerge as the clear challenger to Charlotte's belt sooner rather than later.

The Tag Teams

Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger will get some needed screen time this week, but they have a big mountain to climb in the form of The Ascension.

Ever since losing the titles to The Lucha Dragons, Konnor and Viktor have been focusing their aggression toward Hideo Itami, but they will put that feud on the back burner to get back into tag team action this week.

There's no point in beating around the bush. Dillinger and Jordan have virtually no chance in this one. They have yet to find any real success as a tag team, and defeating a pair of much bigger wrestlers who are all but a lock to be brought up to the main roster seems like a pretty far stretch.

Were they to win, it would be a huge feather in their cap and a sign that they might be in line for a push, but it's more likely this will be an easy win for The Ascension.

This is not to say that Jordan and Dillinger are not talented. They actually have a lot of potential and just have to wait until it's their time to shine.

The second tag team match will see The Vaudevillains battle Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy. This is the second week in a row that Murphy and Blake will be featured on NXT, which is a good sign.

Even if they are not consistently winning, just being booked regularly is a big step in the right direction for this blossoming duo.

However, defeating Simon Gotch and Aiden English seems unlikely. The two manly men have been stepping up over the past few months, and it looks like they might be the next team to challenge for the titles.

The Men

In a bit of a shift from the norm, two heels will be in a singles match this week. The Earth's biggest advocate, CJ Parker, will be taking on Tyler Breeze in what could be a very entertaining bout.

There's no real feud behind this one, but more to the point, there is no booking logic. The fans have shown support for Breeze during some of his better matches, but he is still a heel.

Putting aside the fact that there is nobody to really cheer for, this could be one of the more entertaining bouts of the evening. We all know how good Breeze is at hitting the exciting moves that get the crowd to pop, and Parker has shown a lot of promise in the matches he has had so far.

Parker could really shoot up the ladder with a win over Breeze, but Breeze needs the win just as badly after being unsuccessful in his pursuit of the NXT Championship.

Breeze seems to have entered into a program with Mojo Rawley, so we could also see NXT's resident ball of energy make an appearance.

Finally, the main event of the night will see Adrian Neville defending his NXT Championship against Titus O'Neil in what should be a very interesting match.

These two could not be any more different, which often leads to good chemistry in these situations. Neville is the risk-taker, and O'Neil is the powerhouse. Those kinds of matchups can yield some great action.

O'Neil has been floundering on the main roster ever since he parted ways with Darren Young, but NXT could be the place where he finally gets back some credibility.

While winning the title seems like a stretch, just performing well in a big-match situation could go a long way toward O'Neil being looked at in a different light by management.

There's no denying that Big Titus has the potential to be a big star with his incredible power and hilarious personality. He has all the tools but just has to figure out how to use them to build a name for himself.

This week features a lot of matches that could have serious impacts on all the titles in NXT, but the most important thing is that it looks like it could be another great week for the developmental brand.

What are you looking forward to seeing on NXT this week?
