Doe! Is That Homer Simpson or Urban Meyer Screaming?
July 25, 2009
Doe! At first, I thought it was Homer Simpson screaming, but turns out it was Coach Meyer when he heard the news that Linebacker Dustin Doe was pulled over and found driving on a suspended license a second time.
Accordingly, Doe is now suspended indefinitely, and has jeopardized his future with the Gators. "Dustin had been suspended from team activities while resolving his parking-ticket issues and driving with a suspended license. Those issues have not been taken care of and as a result, he will not be with us when we begin practice on Aug. 6" Coach Meyer stated.
If you recall, Dustin got into a little skirmish back in April 2007. However, the charges were dropped, and Doe was not suspended from the team.
All this mess started with a parking ticket. A ticket? Are you kidding me? Reportedly, he paid the fine, but not the late fee. He had the money to post the $1,000 bail Friday, but not enough money to pay the late fee?
It gets better! He already had an Aug. 24, 2009 court date regarding a June ticket for knowingly driving on a suspended license. Between February and June 2009, he received two tickets for "unknowingly" driving on a suspended license.
Obviously, this young man doesn't get it. I wouldn't be surprised if he is dismissed from the team. He has had several chances to make amends, but has failed to do so.
Seriously, I want to feel sorry for him, but cannot. I have a feeling that he will get kicked off the team, and wind up on some team in the FCS or Division II.
Doe is a talented football player, and it is a shame that he hasn't handled his mistakes accordingly. Now a promising football career hangs in the balance over carelessness.
Doe had a few great moments during the 2008 season. One that comes to mind is an interception during the Georgia game, and he was given 1/2 credit for a sack during the National Championship game. All in all, he has started 15 career games for the University of Florida. A respectable career is now spiraling out of control.
I hope others on the team learn from Doe's mistakes. I think it's time for Mr. Tebow to have a chat with those that have similar or worse character issues if they exist.
I know I wouldn't want to sit across from Coach Meyer trying to explain why I'm stupid and/or careless. Best of luck in your future endeavors, Dustin Doe.
