WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for October 24

Erik BeastonOct 21, 2014

Just five days away from Hell in a Cell, World Wrestling Entertainment rolled into Wichita, Kansas, for SmackDown.

With all eyes on Dean Ambrose ahead of his huge Hell in a Cell match this Sunday night, the Lunatic Fringe figures to make his presence felt on the penultimate stop on the road to the October 26 event. What will he have to say following a disappointing loss on Raw? More importantly, who will interrupt him? A babyface simply cannot cut a promo without being interrupted, correct?

After dropping a non-title match to Cesaro on Raw, Dolph Ziggler defends his Intercontinental Championship against the Swiss Superman. Will Cesaro make history repeat itself, or will Ziggler shake off an 0-4 TV record in recent weeks to retain his title?

  • Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler defeated Cesaro.

Analysis

After a show-closing angle in which Seth Rollins delivered the Curb Stomp to Randy Orton on Raw, one would have thought that would be the topic of discussion on SmackDown. With no appearance from Orton and the focus almost exclusively on Rollins' impending match with Ambrose this Sunday night, it appears that will not be the case.

Putting the emphasis on Ambrose and Rollins enhances that match's importance. The two have already benefited from tremendous booking and a rivalry that has enormous heat on it ahead of this Sunday's match. With their program being the last fans see before making the decision to order on pay-per-view or subscribe to the WWE Network, it was absolutely the right decision on the part of WWE Creative.

Dolph Ziggler's successful title defense against Cesaro comes in a match described as "great." Given the immense talents of the two Superstars and the quality of their matches to this point, it should be no surprise. Ziggler's win is needed following four consecutive TV losses (Rusev, Orton, Rollins, Cesaro) and should help him regain momentum heading into Hell in a Cell.

Elsewhere on the show, Nikki Bella pins sister Brie in a Six-Diva Tag Team match that should help put heat on Nikki and create doubt in the minds of the general audience that Brie can overcome her more powerful sibling. Bo Dallas adds to his impressive win-loss record against Mark Henry by beating the World's Strongest Man in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Finally, Damien Mizdow wins again (!), something that will never get old.

Overall, the show looks like a fun one with plenty of great action leading into Hell in a Cell. Is there any spectacular angle advancement? Is there ever? No. But the wrestling, especially Ziggler vs. Cesaro, should be enough to warrant a viewing.
