The New Orleans Saints' running back depth was bolstered by the return of Mark Ingram in Week 7, but it may once again be an issue moving forward, with veteran Pierre Thomas ailing.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the 29-year-old dual-threat back is expected to miss between two and three weeks due to a shoulder injury:
The Illinois alum left the Saints' 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions Sunday in the third quarter.
Thomas has 133 rushing yards, 26 receptions for 204 yards and three total touchdowns on the year for the struggling Saints. New Orleans is now 2-4, and things won't get any easier, with a Week 8 clash against the Green Bay Packers on tap.
For as long as Thomas is on the shelf, Ingram and Khiry Robinson are likely to share the running back duties. The big challenge will come in the passing game since Thomas is the primary receiving back for quarterback Drew Brees.
New Orleans already has major question marks on the defensive side of the ball, but Thomas' absence will give head coach Sean Payton even more to worry about in the coming weeks.
