The Setting Of The Suns

Won WhiteJul 24, 2009

Okay folks, here it goes.  Now some of you will have to forgive me if I sound a little pissed off.    "I AM"

I know most Suns fans would like to say that Steve Kerr has single handedly placed a full moon over the Valley of the Sun most beloved franchise.  We'll folks, I have to disagree.

The sun started setting has fast as it started rising.  The sunset started  back in 2005.  Yes I said 2005.  Four years ago.

The first mistake;  Having your coach and GM be the same person ( Mike D'antoni)  The second mistake;  Not doing what it would take to keep Joe Johnson and making him happy in the desert.  The third mistake;  As an owner, not putting your foot down on your coach to play more then 7 (or maybe 8 on a night) players deep. The fourth mistake; not playing a deeper bench. The fifth mistake; not palying a deeper bench.  The sixth mistake; not playing a deeper bench.

The rest of the mistakes I will not even place in a order. I will just list them.

1. The Colangelo's leaving the team.  Jerry and Bryan.

2. Trading Shawn Marion for Shaq.

3. Not trading and getting the deal done that would have sent Marion somewhere esle, but would have brought Garnett to Phoenix.  Which was where he wanted to come.  (Can you imagine KG & Amaree playing along side of each other)

4. Not having a more defensive minded coach on the D' Antoni Staff.

5.  Did I mention the Colangelo's leaving and not making the decisions anymore?

6.  Letting players like Quention Richardson, Eddie House, Tim Thomas go.  (These players flourished in the run and gun Steve Nash system)

7. Giving up on draft picks to early.  Aaahhh "let me see"  Rajon Rando, Luel Dang, Rudy Fernandez, Nate Robinson; yes people they all are Phoenix Suns draft picks.

8. Did I mention not keeping Joe Johnson or the Colangelo's?

I'm getting sick, I can't keep going on.  Belive me, I can.  Picture this roster or close to it, depending on trades of this person for that person,  who wouldn't be a Sun if the trade didn't happen.

Here we go: PG; Steve Nash, Rajon Rando, Nate Robinson  SG: Joe Johnson, Rudy Fernandez, Leandro Barbosa , SF: Shawn Marion, Quentin Richardson  PF: Amaree Stoudermire, Tim Thomas  C: Luel Dang, Steven Hunter.

Of course you can tweak the line-ups different ways, but this team would be very, very, very exciting to watch.

So, do I agree that currently Kerr is making some mistakes, "YES".  He's not alone.  They weren't aggressive in this years free agency at all.  Why didn't you go after some players before they sign with new or old teams.  Players like Rasheed Wallace, Carlos Boozer, Andre Miller, Lamar Odom, Mike Bibby, Ron Artest, Jamal Crawford, or Ben Gordon.  Any of them would have been a great fit with the current roster.

So yes the Sun has currently set in the Valley of the Sun.  One day I know in my heart that if will rise again.  It will rise and look like a glow around the Larry O'brien Trophy.

I do know this though; If the Phoenix Suns loose Amaree Stoudermire, it is going to be very cold in the desert for the next few years or longer to come.
