Latest News and Rumors Surrounding WWE 2K15 for October 20

Ryan DilbertOct 20, 2014

Glimpses of gameplay and downloadable content highlight the latest WWE 2K15 buzz.

With the current-gen version's release date drawing near (Oct. 28 in North America, Oct. 31 for international markets), fans had a number of chances to see more of what the upcoming video game looks like in action. That is thanks to a "making of" video, a new commercial and a clip of The Wyatt Family prowling toward the ring.

Details about WWE 2K15's DLC have emerged as well.

Fans of Lex Luger, WCW and Honky Tonk man will be thrilled to hear of all the game's available extras. The game promises to be more than just a trip into yesteryear, though.

Developers promise that the series has undergone a major change with WWE 2K15.

A New 'Making of' Video

IGN posted a second video that takes fans behind the scenes of the first WWE video game on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Besides the stunning shot of Adrian Neville and Cesaro doing motion-capture work, the biggest takeaway is 2K's philosophy for the game.

The developers talked about how they looked to address the pacing, flow and buildup of matches.

The game will be more of a simulation and have a less of an arcade feel in that way. Wrestlers go through a feeling-out process to start bouts before beginning to nail each other with signature moves.

Other changes include more cinematic angles and each wrestler playing more like themselves. So that means playing as Sami Zayn will be a far different experience from playing as Big E. As it should be.

Hopefully, 2K's accomplishes its ambitions. Their goal of making the video game more like the product on TV is a worthy-but-difficult one.

Additional Peeks

In due time, 2K will certainly release clips of Superstars' entrances aplenty, but for now The Wyatt Family get the spotlight alone.

A look at both The Wyatt Family's entrance as a trio and Luke Harper and Erick Rowan's entrance as a tag team shows off the game's attention to detail. The audience's cell phones glowing in the dark is a nice touch.

In addition, a new WWE 2K15 ad posted on WWE.com revealed a little more gameplay.

As John Cena quotes a Dylan Thomas poem, fans can see Chris Jericho hit his Lionsault, The Undertaker diving over the top rope and Cena applying the STF. Everything looks excellent.

That's not a surprise. The move to next-gen consoles and 2K making the game's visuals a priority has produced a mighty handsome game.

Will the gameplay and depth match its looks? The large amount of DLC will certainly help in that department.

DLC Info

If the game itself doesn't offer enough in the way of playable characters and modes, the DLC has you covered. Per 2K.com, fans can purchase various bonus packs or save on money and buy the Season Pass.

The Season Pass includes instant access to all unlockable content and the ability to play as Paige.

The New Moves Pack is comprised of more than 30 new moves including an alternate version of Sister Abigail and Cesaro's multiple gut wrenches.

There will also be three bonus 2K Showcase packs. One centers around Randy Orton and Christian's rivalry, another highlights Mark Henry's rivals and the third a chance to play through Ultimate Warrior's career.

Each Showcase pack offers access to new arenas and wrestlers. The WCW and NXT Arrival packs give folks even more options in terms of Superstars.

If one were to purchase the Season Pass, all of the following Superstars will bolster the game's roster:

  • Hunter Hearst Helmsley
  • The Honky Tonk Man
  • Rick Rude
  • Macho King
  • Col. Mustafa
  • Edge
  • Bam Bam Bigelow
  • Fit Finlay
  • Diamond Dallas Page
  • Lex Luger
  • Lord Steven Regal
  • JBL
  • Adam Rose
  • The Ascension
  • Emma

That's quite the diverse list.

Edge had previously stated on Twitter that he didn't know that he was in the game. That led to speculation about if he'd be left out.

Seeing Rude, Honky Tonk Man and Luger all in the game is going to be a nostalgic experience for many fans. The question of whether CM Punk will be joining them still hasn't been fully answered.

CM Punk Note

As GameSpot reported in September, Punk's legal team was engaged with WWE "to settle a range of disputes, including his possible removal in the upcoming game champion." Punk, though, is key to the game, as he is a part of one of the 2K Showcase rivalries.

A recent interview with the WWE 2K15 cover boy doesn't exactly clear up the situation.

When asked about Punk's inclusion in the game, Cena told Fighting Spirit Magazine (h/t Wrestle Zone) "Whether he's here or not, he's certainly left a mark in WWE. He's got to be in the game, and it's cool that that moment is not forgotten."

That's all true, but it's not the "He's definitely in the game, legal issues or not" that fans are looking for. Thanks to no definitive word either way, rumors about Punk being pulled will likely persist until the release date comes.
