Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 7

Nate LoopOct 19, 2014

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles certainly made his fantasy owners happy in Week 7 against the San Diego Chargers, and simultaneously ruined the chances of those poor souls who started Knile Davis.

Charles racked up the vast majority of Chiefs touches in the first half, carrying the ball 14 times for 60 yards and one touchdown. Davis was barely heard from, popping up for five yards on four carries and grabbing a lone reception for 11 yards after two quarters of play.

Charles showed off his dynamic ability in space on a 16-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He knifed his way through several defenders and earned kudos for holding onto the ball after he took a hard shot at the goal line. Bleacher Report provided a look at the play:

ESPN Stats & Info noted that Charles broke a fairly important record in the first half:

Davis saw more of the ball in the second half, but struggle to gain any traction against the Chargers' defense. His middling performance on the ground will only cement Charles' status as the go-to running back in Kansas City.

Charles wasn't involved in the passing game early on, but he's still a lock at RB1 every week when healthy.

Davis' production has fallen off a cliff since Week 4 against the New England Patriots. He is worth stashing on the bench since Charles has a rather extensive injury history, but he should be nowhere near the starting lineup with the Chiefs' all-time leading rusher present.
