Arsenal Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of October 20

Arsenal fans can't wait for the January transfer window to open.

After another disappointing result against Hull City, Gunners supporters are eager for the cavalry to arrive. There is a growing feeling that Arsene Wenger will have to add a centre-back and holding midfielder if the team are to recover from their underwhelming start to the season.

Antonio Rudiger Eyes Arsenal Move

Stuttgart's highly-rated young centre-back Antonio Rudiger has told Bild (h/t The Metro) that he fancies a move to Arsenal:

"

I have always dreamed of the Premier League.

I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt.

My heart beats for Arsenal.

"

With Arsenal short of cover in defence, Rudiger could well get his wish this January.

Arsenal Linked with Ambitious Move for Mats Hummels

Rob Shepherd of the Daily Mail says that Arsenal have made German international centre-back Mats Hummel their top target for the January transfer window:

"

Arsene Wenger’s promise to bolster Arsenal's squad in January, made at the club’s AGM last week, will be put to the test over Mats Hummels and whether the Gunners can prove a bigger lure than Manchester United.

In previous years he would never have considered paying £32million for a defender but that is the fee Borussia Dortmund are said to want for the German international.

That said, Arsenal thought they had won the race for Hummels before the August window closed.

But just when a deal seemed to be going through, Dortmund made Hummels their captain and the player opted to stay. It is also believed that offers for Hummels had not exceeded £25m.

Hummels would be a great acquisition, but Arsenal's supposed interest seems somewhat optimistic. Having named the Germany international as their skipper, it would surely take a gargantuan offer for Dortmund to consider letting him leave halfway through the season. 

Gunners to Go Back for Morgan Schneiderlin

The Sunday Mirror have suggested that Arsenal could be preparing a renewed bid for Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin.

Arsenal were one of several clubs linked with the French midfielder this summer, but the Saints managed to defy the odds and hold on to their man.

However, his outstanding form at the start of this season will not have gone unnoticed. Arsenal may well return with an improved offer for a player who could solve a lot of their defensive midfield issues.
