Joe Flacco, Torrey Smith and Steve Smith's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 7

Timothy RappOct 19, 2014

More than a few fantasy owners were expecting the Baltimore Ravens passing attack to have a pretty big afternoon against the Atlanta Falcons defense. For much of the game, it was closer to a "meh" performance.

But one long touchdown pass from late in the game from Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith saved both of their afternoons for fantasy owners.

It was another reminder that Flacco remains an erratic QB2 who has big upside on certain weeks but is generally best left on your bench.

Steve Smith St. and Torrey Smith both had pretty nice games, however.

Steve Smith Sr.367506

And so this receiving pair remains more appealing for fantasy owners than Flacco. Smith Sr. remains a weekly WR2 or flex given his consistent role on the offense, while Smith appears to be a streakier flex option with WR2 upside now that the Ravens have seemingly prioritized getting him the ball in recent games.

One thing to keep in mind—this is now the third straight week that Smith has topped Smith Sr. in fantasy points. Perhaps Flacco's familiarity has tipped the pendulum back to Smith in this passing game.

Either way, both are players worthy of starts on a weekly basis. Be far more cautious when it comes to Flacco, however.

Hit me up on Twitter—I'll answer your fantasy questions and make some corny jokes, too. It's more fun than trying to keep a straight face while offering Percy Harvin for Julius Thomas in a trade.
