The New York Islanders will reportedly be without forward Mikhail Grabovski indefinitely after an injury he sustained in the first period of a contest against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
Arthur Staple of Newsday broke the news on Twitter:
Staple later followed with news that Grabovski managed to avoid a concussion:
Grabovski, 30, was hit by Sharks forward John Scott and driven to the ice before being helped from the game. He was stuck in the oncoming path of the 6'8", 260-pound Scott while handling the puck before a collision that is the subject of much debate at the moment.
Four games into what is his ninth season as a pro, Grabovski had scored two goals with an assist while putting seven shots on goal. After playing just 3:11 Thursday, his team went on to improve to 4-0 thanks to a 4-3 shootout triumph.
For now, the Islanders will have to do without the veteran's offensive production as they head into a Metropolitan Division showdown with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday before an encounter with Toronto and Boston next week.
