Kane Comments on the Undertaker vs. Sting and Wrestling 'The Icon'

Donald WoodOct 16, 2014

WWE Superstar Kane is one of the greatest big men in wrestling history and a future Hall of Famer, and after almost 20 years with the company, he is still one of the top stars in the business.

During an interview with Mike Mazzarone of AlternativeNation.net, Kane spoke at length about his new movie See No Evil 2, but was also asked several interesting wrestling questions.

The most interesting question raised was about Sting and his possible jump to the WWE. Kane was asked by Mazzarone about a possible bout between himself and The Icon Sting, and the former world champion had an intriguing response:

"

That would be a dream come true, because Sting is one of the guy who I looked up to when I was a youngster. The dude was the face of WCW, and before that the NWA, one of the most popular wrestlers in history. That would be pretty awesome, and I think that a Sting vs. Undertaker story would be awesome as well, because you would see the faces of two different companies from the same generation collide.

"

Wrestling fans have wanted an Undertaker vs. Sting match for years, and Kane adds even more legitimacy to the speculation that it could actually come to fruition by publicly backing the matchup. A bout between Kane and Sting would sell to fans of all generations, but not on the same level The Undertaker battling Sting would draw.

As Kane said, Sting was the face of alternative wrestling for decades and is one of the few superstars never to sign with the WWE as an in-ring performer. Kane himself may be one of the most iconic characters in history, but The Undertaker has been one of the top stars in the industry for over 20 years.

The Undertaker has been an evil character for the majority of his WWE career, and Sting’s crow gimmick in WCW was always viewed as an ideal opponent for The Deadman. Kane deserves another run in an angle for the company’s top title before he retires, but The Undertaker deserves to fight Sting if the two men agree to appear at WrestleMania 31.

When asked about working with The Undertaker himself, Kane spoke to Mazzarone regarding how the two men would handle their matches and their chemistry when working together:

"

A lot of it is improvised, because you’ve got two guys who go out there and do it like that. I think that’s the best match actually, because you can gauge the audience, understand what they want, and go forward from there. A lot of it depends on what the venue is, because if it’s TV product, it’s a little different. I’d say that the chemistry between Undertaker and I, we gelled really well, I’d say that’s the most important thing, the fact that we were on the same wavelength regardless of how we were doing a match together.

"

The rivalry and working relationship between Undertaker and Kane was one of the most memorable in history. Whether the two men were locked in a bitter family battle with Paul Bearer in the middle or the brothers joined forces to become one of the most dangerous tag teams in history, the programs Kane and Undertaker worked together were a huge part of the Attitude Era and beyond.

Kane draws plenty of criticism from today’s fans due to the terrible Corporate Kane gimmick and the lack of direction, but it wasn’t too long ago that he was still entertaining fans with Daniel Bryan in Team Hell No.

There is no doubt that the masked Kane deserves to make one final run at the top, but he has been such a loyal employee that he likely wouldn’t ask to be put in that situation. After years of putting over younger stars and doing what was best for business, WWE should reward Kane.

While it likely won’t be Sting or The Undertaker, Kane deserves a marquee match at WrestleMania 31.
