Boldin Active for Week 7

Thursday, Oct. 22

The 49ers announced Boldin is active for their Thursday night clash with the Seattle Seahawks.

Boldin Remains Essential Piece to 49ers Offense

Although Boldin is now a 13-year veteran, he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. He has emerged as Kaepernick's go-to target with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, and his contributions are even more important this season since the Niners are a team in transition.

With former head coach Jim Harbaugh as well as several key pieces on both offense and defense no longer in the picture, Boldin has been looked upon to act as a leader and a steadying force in the locker room.

The former Florida State standout has done precisely that by remaining positive about his team in the face of adversity, per Joe Fann of 49ers.com:

He is coming off of two straight 100-yard receiving efforts, and he has totaled 28 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns through six games thus far.

While Boldin entered 2015 having missed at least one game in seven of his 12 NFL seasons, he has been remarkably durable during his time with San Francisco, as he played in and started every contest in both 2013 and 2014.

Most figured the Niners had a major steal on their hands when they acquired Boldin from the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2013 season, and that has been proved true, as he averaged 84 catches for over 1,100 yards and six touchdowns in two full campaigns with the Niners.

The possibility of Boldin's body breaking down increases as he ages, and while the 49ers did lose wide receivers Michael Crabtree and Stevie Johnson, as well as running back Frank Gore, they still have enough talent in place to move the ball without him for the time being.

That is largely due to the presence of Torrey Smith, whom safety Eric Reid believes has added a different dimension to San Francisco's offense, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee:

Boldin's leadership by example is perhaps the biggest thing that will be difficult to replace, though, so there is no question that head coach Jim Tomsula wanted him back on the field as soon as possible.
