WWE NXT: Full Preview, Rumors and More for October 16

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 16, 2014

Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for the Oct. 16 episode of NXT on the WWE Network. Spoilers are already out there, but if you want to know what will happen without having the matches spoiled for you, you're in the right place.

WWE taped another four weeks of NXT back in September that will air through Nov. 6, and this week will feature the first show from that block of episodes.

Bookers deviated from the usual formula for this episode in order to give the women and tag teams of NXT two matches each instead of the usual one, but we'll still have plenty of action from the men's singles division.

The Women

The first match featuring the Divas of NXT will see Becky Lynch battle women's champion Charlotte in a non-title bout.

These are two of the more talented women on the NXT roster, which should equate to them putting on a great match, regardless of who wins.

Lynch was unable to pick up a victory over Sasha Banks last week, but this could be her chance to not only bounce back but prove herself as a worthy contender for the NXT Women's Championship.

Lynch needs this win to establish herself, but Charlotte needs it to keep proving that she is the best the NXT Divas have to offer. Either way, it should be a lot of fun to watch who comes out on top.

The second match of the evening to feature the ladies of developmental will showcase newcomer Carmella taking on a local talent.

Whenever you see that an opponent is a "local talent," you can tell ahead of time who is going to win. Jobbers are brought in to help new talents get over, and Carmella definitely needs the help.

She is still brand new to the NXT scene, but she has aligned herself with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, so she already has some friends to watch her back.

While beating a jobber is no big feat for anyone, this should give us a good chance to see the kind of potential Carmella possesses. It's important not to judge a talent's future on just one match, but first impressions are always going to leave an impactshe better do her best to make a good one.

The Tag Teams

Like the ladies of NXT, the tag team division has two different matches this week. The first will see The Lucha Dragons take on Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake in non-title action.

Kalisto and Sin Cara have formed one of the more exciting tag teams to come along in quite some time, and this should be an easy win for the champions.

Murphy and Blake have been in NXT for a little while now, but they have never really found the kind of success everyone hopes to achieve. Winning this match would give them a big boost and more exposure than they have had as a team.

Cara and Kalisto actually defeated Blake and Murphy in the tournament that earned them the shot at The Ascension's NXT Tag Team Championships at Takeover 2, so there is some history to draw from.

Even in a loss, Blake and Murphy can make an impression if they are able to perform well against the champions in this encounter.

The other tag match set to take place this week will see The Ascension temporarily drop their quest to destroy Hideo Itami in order to take on The Legionnaires.

This is a rare match between two sets of heels, but that might not be the case for too long. Marcus Louis and Sylvester LeFort have had some tension after LeFort left Louis to get his head shaved by Amore and Big Cass back at Takeover 2.

Were they to split up, either LeFort or Louis would likely turn babyface. If they can manage to stay on the same page, a win over The Ascension would definitely put them at the top of the list for a title shot.

The Ascension could use this as an opportunity to show how dominant they are, but they don't need the win right now. Their beef is with Hideo Itami, so there is a good chance we could see the veteran Japanese wrestler make an appearance at some point.

The Men

Two singles matches are scheduled to take place this week, one of which could have a major impact on the battle to see who will challenge Adrian Neville for the NXT Championship next.

The first (and less important) match will see Baron Corbin continue to establish his reign of dominance. He faces off against Elias Sampson.

Sampson has been on NXT plenty of times, but he has never been able to move past his status as an enhancement talent, which should signal another easy win for Corbin.

Neither one of these men is very high up on the totem pole, so a win would help either one, but it's Corbin who is in the midst of a repackaging and a push. He will probably come away from this one victorious.

The real meat and potatoes of this week's episode will be the bout between Sami Zayn and Tyson Kidd. We've seen these two square off many times in the past, and they always manage to get better with each passing match.

Kidd and Zayn are two of the men who have made NXT must-see wrestling for the past several months. They always pull out something we have never seen before, and they always steal the show.

Kidd was told he had one last chance before his most recent failed attempt to win the NXT title, so beating Zayn won't get him back in contention, but Zayn could find himself at the top of the list of contenders if he defeats Kidd.

This is going to be a high-impact match with a lot of great spots and physical action. In the end, the fans will be the ones who win in this situation.

Tyler Breeze is still pursuing the title, and Titus O'Neil has been making some waves in NXT lately, so it could end up being any one of the three who get the next shot at Neville's title.

This looks like another solid week for NXT. What match are you looking forward to seeing the most?
