The Oakland Raiders could be down a fullback when they take the field on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area reported that Marcel Reece is dealing with a quad injury, and Raiders head coach Tony Sparano kept the 29-year-old out of practice on Wednesday:
Reece has spent his entire career with Oakland, opening up holes for his running backs and catching passes out of the backfield. Entering Week 7, he's caught 146 career passes for 1,528 yards and eight touchdowns.
In September, Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson commented that the coaching staff was looking to involve Reece in the offense.
"We have to be a little bit aware early in the game of getting him involved early," he said, per Josh Dubow of The Associated Press. "We'll continue to find ways to utilize Marcel."
Through five games, Reece has run the ball three times for nine yards and recorded eight receptions for 47 yards.
If Reece is absent for the Cardinals game, then Jamize Olawale, who's listed behind Reece in the Raiders' depth chart, will likely see more time on the field.
Oakland is one of two teams still looking for its first win of 2014.
