Fitzpatrick Carted Off, Diagnosed With Broken Leg

The Houston Texans haven't had much luck with their quarterbacks this year, and that trend continued Sunday, when Ryan Fitzpatrick went down against the Indianapolis Colts.
Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com reported on the apparent lower leg injury, which occurred early in the second quarter on a Fitzpatrick scramble:
Bob Kravitz of WTHR.com described the scene before Fitzpatrick left on the cart:
Fitzpatrick was immediately ruled out for the game by the Texans. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting that the quarterback has broken his leg and will miss the remainder of the season:
Throughout his career, Fitzpatrick has been a solid if unspectacular QB. A journeyman with a gunslinger's mentality, he is a smart player but has never had elite physical abilities. His numbers this season haven't been enough to calm the hordes waiting outside NRG Stadium calling for the Texans to swap out quarterbacks.
Things bottomed out after a 31-21 home defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. Fitzpatrick completed a season-low 13 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The Texans eventually named Ryan Mallett as the starter ahead of their Week 10 bye. A few weeks later, Mallett went down for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. That meant Fitzpatrick assumed his old role as the starter.
Houston's playoff chances hang in the balance at the moment, and losing Fitzpatrick might serve as the tipping point.
Rookie quarterback Tom Savage took over for Fitzpatrick Sunday against the Colts. He will likely become the Texans' starter with both Fitzpatrick and Mallett out long term.
