Donald WoodOct 14, 2014

The Boston Bruins have reportedly signed veteran left wing Simon Gagne to a one-year contract, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com:

Boston brought Gagne in during the preseason on a tryout contract, and he managed to tally a goal and an assist in five preseason games. According to NHL.com, Gagne had been traveling with the team, but didn’t officially sign a deal until Tuesday.

Gagne did not play last season, but was an offensive threat during his 13-year NHL career. At 34 years old, Boston is hoping Gagne has the offensive touch to help the team’s struggling offense.

Louis Jean of TVA Sports is happy to have Gagne back:

Through four games, the Bruins have only scored four goals and already have fallen to fourth in the Atlantic Division. Gagne only managed 11 points in 27 games during the 2012-13 season with Philadelphia, but he has 288 goals and 309 assists in 799 career games.

With the struggles of top wingers like Loui Eriksson and Milan Lucic early this season and the offseason departure of Jarome Iginla, Boston will look to Gagne as the possible spark the offense is desperately needs.
