Colin Kaepernick's, Brandon Lloyd's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 6

Chris RolingOct 13, 2014

It was San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Lloyd, not Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin or Stevie Johnson, who hooked up with quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday night for a historic play near the end of the first half to keep his team in a tough battle with the St. Louis Rams.

It was Lloyd, not any of the others, who caused owners of all the others to pull out their collective hair, too.

Lloyd, who had scored all of nine total points on the season and entered owned in just 0.3 percent of leagues, had 14 by halftime thanks to an 80-yard connection with Kaepernick. As notes from ESPN Stats & Info and ProFootballReference detail, the play was quite historic for the 12-year veteran:

As the 49ers detail on Twitter, it was also a first for the younger end of the connection:

Translation—maybe expect it to happen again.

By the end of the night, both men predictably went in opposite directions as Lloyd's reception was his only play of the game, while Kaepernick downright exploded:

As NFL's Director of NFC Football Communications Randall Liu points out, it was a historic night for the San Francisco quarterback:

Lloyd's play is obviously a non-factor owners should not overreact to at this point on a run-first team in which he is maybe, just maybe the No. 4 wideout.

For Kaepernick owners, his numbers by halftime meant his sixth foray into double-digit production in as many games.

The No. 11 overall scorer at the position so far remains a matchup-proof play each week, although owners would be wise to not panic on the sometimes-wavy production that comes with a quarterback stuck in an offense that likes to ground and pound more than take to the air.
