The first American League Championship Series game in Kansas City since 1985 will have to wait. Major League Baseball announced late Monday afternoon that the scheduled Game 3 matchup between the Royals and Baltimore Orioles will be postponed due to inclement weather.
Sports Illustrated's MLB Twitter feed noted the game will be rescheduled for Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET:
Due to the delay, Game 4 has been rescheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. If necessary, MLB announced Game 5 would take place at 4 p.m. ET Thursday.
MLB made the pre-emptive decision to push the game back a day as rain poured nonstop throughout the day at Kauffman Stadium. The Weather.com forecast indicates rain is likely to continue throughout the evening, with some intermittent breaks. Rain was also in the forecast for Game 1 in Baltimore but held off as Kansas City earned an 8-6 win in extra innings.
The Royals beat Baltimore, 6-4, on Saturday to take a 2-0 series lead. Jeremy Guthrie is scheduled to pitch Game 3 for Kansas City, going against Baltimore lefty Wei-Yin Chen.
