Allsports and the NFL Off Season
Looking around for some sports on the web I decided to write a short blurb on a couple of things of note in the NFL during their off season.
The first is the allegation of rape that has been filed in a civil suit by a 31 year old Nevada woman against Ben Roethlisberger.
The suit includes several charges, including assault, sexual assault and battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Gee the funny thing is no criminal complaint has been filed and therefore law enforcement officials in the state of Nevada have no intention of opening a criminal investigation. Roethlisburger has denied the charges. Makes you wonder if this woman was just looking for a quick payday since old Ben is the quarterback of the defending Super Bowl champion, Pittsburgh Steelers. Just goes to show you that there is always someone that will try to get a piece of the action when your in the limelight.

The second is the decision by the NFL that team franchises can pursue deals with their respective state lottery corporations. Allsports thinks this is a no brainer by the league. Why not do so considering the main reason why the NFL is so popular is because of the amount of money involved betting on games every week. Don’t get me wrong, the NFL has done a great job of marketing the product and there are a huge amount of football fans out there, allsports being one of them. But take the betting and money out of the games and there would be and enormous amount of people out there that would find other things to do on a Sunday afternoon. To back up my claim just think of how many people run office football pools at their place of employment. Then they all watch the games with their picks in hand, to see who is in the money.
I rest my case.
Allsports thinks maybe the CFL should take a page out of the “No Fun Leagues” book and initiate try to stimulate a little more betting in their game. The exposure and popularity of it could not hurt.
