Blake Bortles, Clay Harbor and Cecil Shorts' Post-Week 6 Fantasy Reaction

Andrew GouldOct 12, 2014

The Jacksonville Jaguars seem increasingly content with eschewing the running game and letting rookie Blake Bortles air it out. Even though the Jaguars remain a winless mess, their passing game could wield some useful contributors.

Bortles registered 374 total yards (336 passing) in another losing effort versus the Tennessee Titans. Cecil Shorts and Clay Harbor also provided some sneaky fantasy points for resourceful fantasy managers.

Chad Henne's replacement has now completed 67.8 percent of his passes. As The Associated Press' Mark Long notes, Bortles sure beats Blaine Gabbert:

Yet he also has thrown seven interceptions through four games, so he remains too raw to trust unless given a great matchup. The Cincinnati Bengals are not that great matchup in Week 7.

Shorts' 16 targets ties Jordy Nelson for the most this week, and only Mohamed Sanu captured more receptions. He caught two passes for 25 yards two weeks ago, but he admitted to The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran that he wasn't fully healthy.

“I probably shouldn’t have done that – that was selfish on my part to try and play through it,” Shorts said after the poor performance against the San Diego Chargers.

Now fully healthy, he'll assume his regular role as a garbage-time extraordinaire. With the Jaguars constantly playing from behind, he'll pad his stats on late desperation drives. Put in a waiver claim for him if he remains available.

He's not the only intriguing option to emerge since Bortles took over. In three games with the rookie under center, tight end Clay Harbor has 14 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown. The fifth-year pro is getting a chance to start in a pass-happy offense, so watch him carefully going forward.
