Floyd 'Money' Mayweather: 'I Look Forward to Putting on My First MMA Show'

John HeinisOct 11, 2014

WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring welterweight and WBC light middleweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather says, in no uncertain language, that he will be entering the MMA aspect of the fight game in the very near future.

In an interview with Fight Hype, "Money" explained that Mayweather Promotions is looking to sign MMA fighters, and he is personally going to host an MMA event sooner than later.

"

We believe in treating our boxers and our MMA fighters fair. I want a lot of MMA fighters to get in touch with you because Mayweather Promotions, I look forward to putting on my first MMA show also and having me some MMA champions. Like I said before, Floyd Mayweather loves to think outside the box. We're not just one-dimensional. We're very versatile, and we have an open mind. When I get into the MMA game, I want them to make more money than they're making because from what I hear, they're not being treated fair.

While Mayweather (47-0, 26 knockouts), 37, never expressed an interest in transitioning his way into the cage, he has always had an open mind when it comes to being an entrepreneur.

Additionally, the legendary fighter has announced that 2015 will likely be his last year inside the ring, so he would theoretically have a lot of spare time after that, per ESPN.

Although the subject of fighter pay is an ongoing issue in the sport of mixed martial arts, a new chapter has recently been written on the subject after former PRIDE and UFC legend Wanderlei Silva took aim at the UFC.

"The Axe Murderer" believes that even though he was compensated fairly during his fight career, for a promotion to pay up-and-coming fighters show money of just $4,000 to $8,000 is unacceptable, per Submission Radio.

The last time Mayweather made headlines in the MMA community was for claiming that he did not know who UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is back in July, per Fight Hub TV.

Does Mayweather have the business savvy and the drive to make a serious impact in the MMA world in 2015?
