Superstars Who Would Benefit from a Return to NXT
NXT has been a great way to introduce new talent to the WWE Universe, but it has also proven to be a good place for people from the main roster to go and get some of their credibility back.
While Tyson Kidd is not in the greatest storyline at the moment, there is no denying that a return to the developmental system gave him some of his confidence back.
Titus O'Neil recently began appearing on NXT in matches against Sami Zayn. This could be a chance for O'Neil to separate himself from the comedy gimmick he currently has with Heath Slater and Hornswoggle.
Sin Cara is another Superstar who has found new life in NXT. He even won the Tag Team Championship with Kalisto.
WWE's minor league is becoming one of the better shows in its weekly lineup, and it could be the perfect place for Superstars who are floundering to find new footing.
This slideshow will look at a few of the Superstars who would benefit greatly from a run in NXT.
Zack Ryder
1 of 5Zack Ryder went from being a nobody to being one of the most popular Superstars on the roster thanks to his own dedication to reaching the fans in any way possible, but now, he is back to being used in a minimal role.
Ryder got himself over all on his own with his YouTube show, Twitter presence and likable personality. He really seems like he is just as big a fan of wrestling as the rest of us.
Ryder is one of the people who could get some momentum back with a run in NXT. There are a number of talents he could have great matches with, but more importantly, it would put him in the position of being a veteran who is helping the next generation.
Ryder would be well received in NXT because the kind of fans who go to those shows are the kind of fans whom Ryder appeals to most.
Once Ryder gets some credibility back, he could return to the main roster more popular than ever.
Curtis Axel
2 of 5Ever since Ryback went down with an injury, Curtis Axel has been all but forgotten. He popped up in a couple of matches here and there, but he has essentially disappeared.
Axel is very technically gifted, but his character has always felt a little forced. A stint in NXT would give him the chance to refine his gimmick while passing along some of his skills to the other NXT Superstars in the process.
Everyone would benefit in this situation. Axel would get the chance to make a name for himself before returning to the main roster, and the wrestlers in developmental get a chance to wrestle with someone who can make them rise to his level.
It's hard to be the son of someone who was so beloved by wrestling fans. Nobody ever looks at you without seeing your father, but Axel deserves a chance to make his own legacy.
Even his run with Paul Heyman saw him used as little more than an enhancement talent, despite being the intercontinental champion at the time. He deserves better, and NXT could be his chance to prove he is more than just the son of a legend.
David Otunga
3 of 5WWE hasn't had anything for David Otunga to do since the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30. He's not injured, and he's not on suspension. He's just missing in action.
Otunga may not be the best wrestler in the world, but he doesn't have to be. He turned his legal advisor gimmick into one with a lot of humor and likable qualities. He has a lot of value, but WWE hasn't found the right way to use it yet.
There are a number of ways he could be used in NXT, but the best way for him to get better is to be used as a wrestler. We all know he can take a bump, but he needs to add more to his repertoire.
NXT would be a great place for him to get more comfortable in the ring while also bringing his brand of dry humor back to our TV screens.
With less than a handful of appearances over the past year, Otunga is in danger of losing any leverage his celebrity status gives him. If he doesn't find a way to return soon, he may find himself joining the list of released Superstars.
Rosa Mendes
4 of 5Rosa Mendes recently returned to WWE after a lengthy absence to join the cast of Total Divas, but her work in the ring has been some of the worst we have seen from any Diva.
If any woman on the roster could use some more training, it's Mendes. WWE obviously plans on keeping her around since she is now a part of its reality show, but featuring a Diva who has serious drawbacks doesn't help anybody.
Being in NXT and being on Total Divas would be great cross-promotion for the two brands, and it would give Mendes the time she needs to improve.
Taking some time off the road and working at the performance center with the great staff of trainers it has there would be invaluable to her future, and being featured on NXT would get her to the level she needs to be at to return to the main roster eventually.
R-Truth
5 of 5Outside of a brief run as Dolph Ziggler's stunt double, R-Truth has been nothing more than a glorified jobber for quite some time.
There was once a period where it seemed like Truth was destined for main event-level success, but that time may have come and gone.
At 42, Truth is one of the older members of the roster, but it's never too late for a resurgence in one's career. With all of his experience, he would be a valuable asset in preparing the younger talent for the main roster, and mixing with a new crowd might help him revitalize his own character.
Truth has the charisma and the experience to play both a heel and a babyface character, but what he needs right now is more exposure. NXT is not a big stage, but it's a place that might be able to turn things around for him.
These are five wrestlers who would benefit from a return to NXT, but there are more. Who do you think would benefit from a run in WWE's developmental brand?
