The New York Rangers picked up some points in their season-opening victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night, but they also received unfortunate news in the aftermath.
Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News provided an update on the health of defenseman Dan Boyle:
Losing a critical player in the season opener is certainly disheartening from the Rangers’ point of view, especially since the team is looking for a fast start after losing in the Stanley Cup Final a season ago.
However, if there is a silver lining, it is that there is plenty of time for Boyle to recover before the season’s stretch run.

Ultimately, it is more important for Boyle to be on the ice when the playoffs are closer.
Boyle came over to New York after scoring 12 goals and tallying 24 assists for the San Jose Sharks a season ago. The 38-year-old veteran will have to pass along some of his experience from the sidelines for the time being.
