Tyler Breeze, Michael Elgin and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Tyler Breeze worked away from the cameras, and Michael Elgin no longer works for Ring of Honor.
The former item points to Breeze creeping closer to a call-up. The latter provides an opportunity for WWE NXT to welcome another former ROH world champ.
In other WWE developmental news, the company released two men working behind the scenes at NXT, and Sawyer Fulton traded in his look.
The following is a look at those stories, at Breeze's recent victory against a main-roster Superstar and the possibility of Elgin making Full Sail University his next home base.
WWE Releases NXT Trainer
1 of 5Nick Dinsmore, better known as Eugene, is no longer with NXT. According to PWInsider, the company released him from his role as a trainer.
WWE's budget cuts had slowed of late, but Dinsmore become their latest victim. He had been working for WWE developmental for a year.
Dinsmore said goodbye to his fans via Twitter, writing that "it was truly an honor" to be a part of NXT, the Performance Center and WWE.
NXT Employee Released
2 of 5Matt Martlaro's exit won't get as much press as Nick Dinsmore's since he isn't a former WWE Superstar, but the NXT employee has also parted ways with the company.
Writing for PWInsider, Mike Johnson reports that Martlaro "was also let go by WWE TV." Johnson goes on to say that Martlaro "was considered 'abrasive' in his dealings with the talent and was not popular among wrestlers for the way he was said to treat them."
During a time where WWE is looking to trim its budget any way it can, Martlaro's reportedly poor relationships with NXT talent seemed to have outweighed his value.
The recent pattern of cuts suggests that he won't be the last WWE worker to be let go.
Michael Elgin Quits Ring of Honor
3 of 5WWE has the opportunity to scoop up one of the world's best wrestlers.
Michael Elgin's relationship with Ring of Honor appears to be over, opening the door for WWE to bring him aboard.
After a tumultuous few weeks with ROH, Elgin wrote the following on his Facebook page:
"I first want to say thank you to all the supporters out there, it has been my pleasure to perform for you.
I want to admit the quitting on twitter is a little childish but I don't want to be advertised for a show I won't be a part of.
I will give kudos to ROH for rushing to get me back home, for that I am grateful. I had numerous conversations with the company about all situations that have occurred and told them my stance. I was trying to be business minded and was trying to reach a full understanding that would allow both parties to move forward.
"
Elgin is an explosive athlete with impressive power. After a decade's worth of experience, he can bring it in the ring and on the mic.
Now a free agent, WWE has to consider bringing him to NXT.
As we've seen with the company adding Kevin Steen, Finn Balor and Willie Mack, the search for talent never ends. Adding Elgin to that mix of prospects is a no-brainer.
Sawyer Fulton Changes Look
4 of 5The search to find the right way to present Sawyer Fulton continues.
After dyeing his hair blond and wearing a long singlet for a while, Fulton has changed his look. A fan calling himself Kusiga tweeted photos of Fulton sporting a dark mohawk and new ring gear.
Packaging a prospect is a key part of his growth. Bull Dempsey's current look and entrance music helped him stand out.
Fulton is struggling to be noticed. This shift in appearance may not solve that, but it certainly makes him look more intimidating.
NXT Stars Work Dark Matches
5 of 5NXT's top stars keep hanging around backstage during Raw without getting a chance in front of the cameras. Tyler Breeze, Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn stepped out from behind the curtains during Tuesday's SmackDown tapings, but their work won't make it on the air.
PWInsider reports (note: link contains SmackDown spoilers) that Breeze defeated Xavier Woods and Neville knocked off Zayn in a pair of dark matches.
Flying Breeze and company around with the main roster is a sign of how highly WWE officials view them. They remain on the periphery of the main roster, getting opportunities like these.
These are signs that promotions for all three men are on the horizon, but it's getting harder to be patient.
