WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from October 7

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 7, 2014

Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.

Another week, another four matches on the weekly C-show. Main Event can be good sometimes and unwatchable other times, but they have been falling into a pattern of mediocrity lately.

Average is not a bad thing, but it certainly isn't good. Original programming is a big part of bringing in new subscribers to the WWE Network, but so is making sure the live shows broadcast on the service are worth tuning in for.

Let's take a look at see if this week's show was worth the price of a subscription.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Bo Dallas (IC Title Match)

Bo Dallas was granted this Intercontinental title shot after getting three straight wins over Mark Henry in the course of a week. While the logic behind how he got his title match is a bit unusual, this was a good way to test if Dallas is ready to start having regular feuds.

Even though he has been in a lot of matches already, this felt like the first time Dallas was put into an even matchup. This was easily his longest bout since joining the main roster, and it helped show that he is more than a one-trick pony.

Dallas nearly picked up the win and his first title with the help of the ring ropes, but the ref saw him breaking the roles and stopped the count, allowing Ziggler to hit the Zig Zag for the pin and the win.

It certainly didn't match up to the Triple Threat we saw between Miz, Cesaro and Ziggler last week, but it gave us a decent start to Main Event.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights:

  • This is exactly what Ziggler needs. He should be portrayed as a fighting champion who successfully defends his title on a regular basis. We've seen half-a-dozen title matches over the past several weeks, and it has really helped establish Ziggler as a worthy champion.
  • They must be in Philly since Dallas was ripping on cheesesteaks.
  • Cesaro should be a guest at the commentary table more often. He provides better analysis than most of the real commentators. If he ever has to stop wrestling, he would be an excellent announcer.

Twitter Reaction:

Nikki Bella, Cameron, Summer Rae and Layla vs. Brie Bella

In another chapter in the ongoing saga between the Bella twins, Brie was put into another handicap match, but this time her sister was part of the team she was facing.

Brie has been able to overcome some big disadvantages in recent weeks, but four opponents were too much for her to handle.

Nikki ended up picking up the win with her finisher, which is basically a Torture Rack drop. This could have been better, but some of Cameron's limitations really hurt the quality of the match.

Winner: Nikki, Summer, Layla and Cameron

Grade: D+

Notes and Highlights:

  • Cameron would make a good heel valet. She is really easy to hate in the best possible way. It's just too bad she can't wrestle as well as she trash talks.
  • Is everyone who chants "Yes" actually supporting Brie or do they just like chanting "Yes" over and over?

Twitter Reaction:

Tyson Kidd vs. Jack Swagger

Tyson Kidd walked into Kane's office to demand a match, only to find out that Natalya already requested one for him.

Kidd ended up picking up a very quick win over Swagger with a roll-up. There were no dirty tactics and no hiding behind his wife. For once, he actually did it on his own.

Natalya was there at ringside to cheer on her husband, but she was basically ignored after Kidd picked up the victory. She put on a brave face, but she did a good job showing frustration behind her smile.

These are two of the best pure wrestlers WWE have on their roster right now, but they did not get the chance to show it during this match.

Winner: Tyson Kidd

Grade: C-

Notes and Highlights:

  • Kane was pretty funny when he was ripping into Kidd for not being the one who wears the pants in his family.
  • WWE did such a good job building up Swagger during his feud with Rusev. It's too bad that he has been reduced to barely being in a real program.
  • It's also too bad that Kidd is being booked into an angry-husband gimmick. His time in NXT showed that he can deliver the best performances. He must have really rubbed someone the wrong way to be booked so horribly for so long.

Twitter Reaction:

Stardust vs. Jey Uso

The final bout on Main Event ended up being the best of the night. It wasn't a candidate for match of the year, but it showcased what makes both these men special.

The pace was steady throughout the course of the match, with both Stardust and Jey Uso having an equal amount of control from start to finish.

Goldust tried to get involved, but Jimmy Uso made sure things stayed fair by taking him out before he could do anything. Jey was able to pick up the win with a Superfly Splash to the back of Stardust.

This win is a good sign that these two teams are nowhere close to being done with their feud, which is great. The tag team division is struggling, but at least the two best teams are at the forefront.

Winner: Jey Uso

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights:

  • Thank goodness The Usos are still in the hunt for the Tag Team titles. It was starting to look grim when they were put into an Adam Rose segment recently.
  • It still bothers a lot of people that no explanation has ever been given as to why Cody Rhodes turned into Stardust. It's a great gimmick, but it literally came out of nowhere.
  • It's surprising that more people in the crowd don't wear either team's face-paint. WWE should have stands set up for kids to get their faces painted like their favorite Superstar. It would be a big hit at live events.
