Why the Giants can cover the spread
The Giants started 0-2 both straight up and ATS this season and looked terrible doing it. But now they've won three in a row both SU and ATS and look like a totally different team. New York opened with losses to Detroit and Arizona, scoring a total of 28 points, as the offense adapted to a new scheme. But the Giants have since beaten Houston, Washington and Atlanta, tallying 105 points. Through those first two games, quarterback Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes and four interceptions; over the last three games, he's thrown eight touchdown passes and just one pick.
Why the Eagles can cover the spread
The Eagles just beat St. Louis 34-28, but considering Philly led 34-14 heading into the fourth quarter, that score is a bit misleading. The Eagles have hit the 30-point mark in four of five games this season and seven of their last 10 stretching back to last season. Philly has sputtered a bit on offense, as quarterback Nick Foles has experienced some growing pains, but the Eagles have gotten help from elsewhere, as the defense and special teams have combined to score seven touchdowns on the season. Once Coach Kelly gets his offense in gear, Philly will again be a dangerous outfit.
Smart Pick
The Eagles have scored five touchdowns on defense and special teams over the last two games. That means their offense has accounted for just three touchdowns in that span. Also, after leading the league in rushing last year, Philly ranks just 23rd this year, at 99 yards per game. The Giants, meanwhile, seem to have found something and rank 15th in rushing at 121 yards per game. So far this NFL season, teams that have outrushed their opponents are 52-23 ATS. The pick here goes with New York.
Trends
- NY Giants are 4-2 SU in their last six games on the road.
- Philadelphia is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 games when playing NY Giants.
