Washington Safety Ryan Clark Calls Russell Wilson 'The Best Player in the NFL'

Kyle NewportOct 7, 2014

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson wasn't the most hyped prospect in the 2012 NFL draft, but he has quickly won himself plenty of fans since he entered the league. Count Washington safety Ryan Clark as one of them.

Wilson dominated on Monday Night Football against Washington, throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns—along with zero interceptions—while adding 122 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a 27-17 victory.

After the game, Clark gave Wilson a glowing review, per The Washington Post's Mike Jones"We got beat by a better team. We got beat by, as far as I'm concerned this weekend, the best player in the NFL. Russell Wilson made every play he had to make for his team to win, and we didn't."

Those are very flattering words from a veteran player.

From his quotes, it sounds as though Clark was calling Wilson the best player of Week 5. However, given the way the Seattle signal-caller is playing, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that he is currently the best player in the league.

Fresh off winning the Super Bowl in February, Wilson is showing no signs of slowing down. If Clark's comments are any indication, players around the league appear to have a great deal of respect for the Seahawks quarterback's game.
