Updates from Wednesday, Oct. 8

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk passed along a statement from Larry Johnson following his arrest:

"

'The charge for which I was arrested is false,' Johnson said in a statement released by his lawyer, Jordan B. Abramowitz.  'The stories that have been reported in the media about the events leading to my arrest fail to accurately portray what really happened.  At the end of the day, when the truth comes out, the allegations that have been made against me will be shown to be completely untrue and confirm that I have committed no crime whatsoever.'

Former NFL running back Larry Johnson used to make headlines for his strong performances on the field, but the Penn State alum is now back in the news for all the wrong reasons.

According to Brian Hamacher of NBCMiami.com, the former Kansas City Chiefs star was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with aggravated battery after allegedly assaulting a man at a Miami club.

TMZ later released Johnson's mugshot on Twitter:

It is alleged that the 34-year-old Johnson punched 29-year-old Drew Johnson multiple times and threatened him with a broken bottle, per NBCMiami.com, which also reported that Johnson was being held on $7,500 bond at a local jail.

Johnson hasn't played in the NFL since 2011, when he appeared in just one game for the Miami Dolphins. He also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins, but his most productive years came with the Chiefs.

The former first-round pick was a two-time Pro Bowler and rushed for more than 1,700 yards in both 2005 and 2006. Johnson never topped 874 yards in a season after that, however.

This isn't the first time Johnson has gotten into trouble with the law since his NFL career came to an end. According to ESPN.com, Johnson pleaded no contest in a domestic violence case after allegedly beating an ex-girlfriend in 2012.

It remains to be seen what kind of repercussions might await Johnson, but this alleged incident continues a disturbing trend in the former superstar's post-NFL life.
