Brian Vogler Decides To Roll With The Tide

Douglas WebbJul 22, 2009

Highly rated and recruited tight end Brian Vogler held a press conference at his school today, where he announced his intention to sign with Alabama next February.

The Brookstone High School product is 6'7", 248 lbs. He is considered one of the top all- around tight ends in the nation. He was heavily recruited, with offers from Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, and Florida State, but in the end, he chose the Tide.

Last season, Vogler had 400 yards receiving out of a wing T offense, while hauling in 21 passes.

"It was a long, hard process, but in the end, I am confident I made the right decision," said Vogler.

"I became very close to coach Smart throughout the whole process, and Coach Williams does a great job with his tight ends. The whole coaching staff, starting with Coach Saban all the way down, is first class. Alabama uses traditional tight ends, and that is what I am. I can block, catch, and run, and that is what Alabama asks their tight ends to do. It is really a perfect fit all the way around."

Vogler then indicated that he was through with visits, and considered his recruitment over with. He stated that the reason he visited so many schools this spring and summer was so he could make his decision early, and then concentrate on the upcoming high school season

To remove any doubt about his decision, Vogler added, " Alabama is where my heart is, and where I am going to school."

Alabama has plans to add another tight end in this class, and Harrison Jones–brother of Tide offensive lineman Barrett Jones–is a likely target for that spot.
