PSG Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of October 6

Jonathan JohnsonOct 6, 2014

Paris Saint-Germain's slow start to the Ligue 1 season has laid clear all of the problematic areas that the French champions' coach, Laurent Blanc, is facing at the Parc des Princes. Greater depth is needed in certain areas, while a higher level of quality is required in others.

The club from the French capital are already being linked with a number of potential transfer targets, while one persistent outbound rumour refuses to go away. If PSG cannot improve on their current third-placed positionseven points behind leaders Olympique de Marseillethen the transfer rumours will likely keep on coming.

Blanc will be keen to keep his current squad intact and perhaps hopes to add one or two new faces in January. However, that will depend on whether or not UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules are still wreaking havoc with PSG's transfer plans.

Kwadwo Asamoah

1 of 6

The latest transfer rumour featuring PSG links them with Juventus' Kwadwo Asamoah. According to Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia), the French giants are one of a number of teams monitoring the Ghanaian international's situation with the current Serie A champions.

Although Asamoah is not said to be unhappy in Turin and in search of a move just yet, the article does suggest that the 25-year-old wants more first team football. French international Patrice Evra is currently keeping him largely out of the first team picture at Juventus Stadium.

Adrien Rabiot

2 of 6

Adrien Rabiot's transfer saga has dragged on past the end of this summer's transfer window. It is largely accepted that the talented 19-year-old French midfielder will leave PSG, but the big question at present is where he will end up.

"

Le Parisien: Adrien Rabiot's situation at PSG now clear. He has been removed from senior squad indefinitely. Rejected summer move to Roma.

"

Le Parisien: PSG & Roma had agreed €15m fee (€8m up front & €7m in bonuses), but Rabiot's entourage rejected unsatisfactory contract offer.

A product of Les Parisiens' fruitful youth academy, the latest on the teenager's future is that he has been indefinitely removed from the first team according to Le Parisien (h/t French Football Weekly's tweets).

The PSG No. 25 is now believed to have three choices available to him; to leave for free next June after playing an entire season with the capital club's reserve side, to leave in January in search of first team football or to sign a new contract and be reintegrated into the first team.

Although the latter option might appear to be the best solution for both parties, the chances of Rabiot being able to mend the bridges broken this summer appear slim. The Frenchman is expected to leave the club before the end of the January transfer window.

Yohan Cabaye

3 of 6

Yohan Cabaye has not had a happy start to his PSG career. Less than 12 months after moving to the French capital, the 28-year-old is already starting to question his decision to join the French champions. Many have been questioning the capital club's need to sign the French international midfielder ever since he arrived at the Parc des Princes.

"

Cabaye: "I am 28 years old & not just starting out. I won't change my style now. The coach's choices must be respected, but I won't quit."

— FFW (@FrenchFtWeekly) October 8, 2014"

Speaking with L'Equipe (h/t Goal.com's Harry West), Cabaye revealed his unhappiness at his current predicament with the Ligue 1 giants. The former Newcastle United man then suggested that he would be forced to consider his future with PSG if his lack of playing time at club level starts to affect his international career.

Edinson Cavani

4 of 6

PSG's Edinson Cavani is currently in crisis. The Uruguayan has now gone four games in all competitions without a goal and looks incapable—in his current form—of being the main man for les Parisiens. Yet despite El Matador's struggles, teams are still supposedly queueing up for his signature.

According to The Express' Anthony Chapman, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all keen on the South American. However, despite Cavani's poor form, PSG cannot sell their No.9 because of strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic's recent injury problems that have made the 27-year-old indispensable.

Yaya Toure

5 of 6

One of the most problematic areas for PSG this season has been in midfield. Thiago Motta, Blaise Matuidi and Marco Verratti are failing to rediscover their best collective form from last season—although all three were sensational in the 3-2 UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona last week—and it appears that the French champions are already considering alternatives.

According to The Guardian's Nick Miller, the Ivorian star is on the way out at Manchester City and PSG are the club leading the chase for his signature.

Raheem Sterling

6 of 6

Out wide is another problematic area for PSG following the injury to Ezequiel Lavezzi. Les Parisiens are in need of some more speed and a direct threat to make them more dynamic going forward and Liverpool's English international Raheem Sterling is though to be on the French champions' wish list.

Per The Independent's Paul Smith, PSG are prepared to take advantage of Sterling's current contract situation and lure him to the Parc des Princes with a massively improved salary. The 19-year-old would not come cheap with two years left on his current deal, but could still prove more affordable than many of the other alternatives in that role.

In order to bring in a player like Sterling though, the French giants will likely need to sell the likes of Lavezzi first.
