County's Sven Deal Doomed to Failure
Sven-Goran Eriksson is reportedly poised to join the staff at Notts County, but how can the prospective link-up ever work out?
Eriksson’s CV is impressive, with the associations of England, Mexico, and Manchester on the list of his former employers, but an imminent move to England’s football basement is baffling.

There’s nothing wrong with setting your sights high, but how could Eriksson, who has spent all of his career coaching the elite, help the Magpies crawl up the league ladder?
It could be argued that football in England’s bottom-tier is a completely different game that Eriksson is unfamiliar with. It is questionable how much the Swede knows about Grimsby’s forward line, or the merits of playing a flat back four at Accrington on a cold winter’s night.
There’s no time for flair in League Two; it’s all about hard work and effort. A manager is only as good as the players they have around them.
With Ian McParland retaining his position as manager, the Former Lazio chief is being earmarked for a director of football role at Meadow Lane...an even more baffling decision when you consider Eriksson’s hands-on approach, and his desire to work with his players on the training field.
Maybe it’s Sven’s contacts that the Meadow Lane board is gunning for, but I can’t see the charms of Sven being able to lure Mexico’s finest to Nottingham.
It’s a bizarre partnership, and one which looks doomed to failure, but it’s certainly got people talking about the new League Two title favourites, so Munto Finance will be happy at least.
