Kaka Called Up for Brazil Friendlies vs. Argentina, Japan

Mike ChiariOct 3, 2014

Brazilian soccer star Kaka hasn't been a fixture on the international scene for quite some time, but that could be changing now that Canarinho are under new management.

According to ESPNFC, the 32-year-old midfielder will be part of Brazil's squad in friendlies against both Argentina and Japan:

"

Kaka has been called up by coach Dunga for Brazil's next two friendly games against Argentina and Japan.

Kaka, 32, has not represented Brazil since March 2013 and did not claim a place in Brazil's squad for the 2014 World Cup under former coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Kaka has not appeared for the national team since early 2013, and he was not a part of Brazil's 2013 Confederations Cup or 2014 World Cup roster either.

Although Kaka was seldom used with Luiz Felipe Scolari serving as Brazil's boss, a familiar face has brought him back into the fold. Scolari stepped down after Brazil's World Cup meltdown, which opened the door for Carlos Dunga to assume the managerial duties.

Dunga was Brazil's head man from 2006 through 2010. During that time, Kaka was one of Selecao's key players. Kaka helped Brazil win the Confederations Cup in 2009, and he was also part of Confederations Cup and World Cup triumphs in 2005 and 2002 respectively prior to Dunga's tenure.

As pointed out by Selecao Brasileira, Dunga has not hesitated to bring back players that he trusts since regaining the role as Brazil's boss:

According to Reuters (h/t Eurosport.com), Dunga is placing a great deal of emphasis on chemistry moving forward.

"We are at the start of our work so we need to build a base and a continuity," Dunga said. "We can't keep changing. You need to give security to the players who are called up so they feel at home."

Kaka may not be the same player who won the FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or awards in 2007, but he is currently a key player for Sao Paulo FC on loan from Orlando City SC of MLS.

Orlando City will debut next season with Kaka serving as their biggest star. Per Men in Blazers of NBC Sports, MLS is proving to be a good destination for veteran stars:

Kaka may not receive many more opportunities to represent his country at his age, so he has to make the most of the chance he is being given by Dunga.

If Kaka performs against Argentina and Japan, then it is possible that he will once again be a Selecao regular for the foreseeable future.
