Oklahoma City Summer League Recap
Let me start off with this. I'm new to writing i don't do this very often in, fact this is my first time writing an article but i wish to start so ill begin here.
As i watched Summer League Orlando i was blown away with competitiveness of our players and how seriously they took these ' don't count' games.
and then came Las Vagas..oh this wasn't a pretty sight for thunder fans, though there was some light. let me address these.
lets start off with player by player run-downs (ill only do a few sorry, got lazy.)
We all know how much Sam loves versatile players, well... we have another one
James Harden. Comes in as a shooting guard but is a combo guard who can play the point which came as a surprise. This guy has unbelievable body control he can take a hit like few others and not be affect and still finish round the basket. we also saw him play quite a few minutes of point guard and i was quite impress with what he has to offer. great play-making abilities, nice court vision, not quite Steve Nash but he gets the job done. he has a steady 3pt shot for a rookie coming out of college shooting at .375% (over the S.L)
Byron James Mullens. oh boy what did we get our selves into. a 7'2 guy who is in love with the jump-shot isn't exactly what we needed, BJ is yet to use his height and bang down low. through out the whole SL he had so many easy dunks but instead lunched a shot from wherever he caught the ball. we did see him shoot a few threes and swish a few, which was a nice sight. although his a player when shooting the three-ball u squint your eyes and then a massive 'sigh' comes right after it. don't get me wrong he is a good pick and pop guy but with white and Krstic there isn't much room for him on our roster, that being said i wouldn't mind a BJ to close his eyes and throw his arms around and try to defend the paint... maybe he'll get lucky? he did show some signs of good court vision few nice passes. didn't know he had that in him. he is a project, we took him for a reason, wouldn't mind to see him in eruo league for a season or two, i think he will fit better over there.
Serge Ibaka. Sergey Sergey Sergey.. did that little contract get to your head. i hope not. we saw the good and the bad. I'm sure most of you saw him play in Orlando shooting over 65% if i recall. probably the most efficient player on the floor. we saw his weakness in LA, he was getting man handled on the boards. he showed some very nice post moves some drop steps, spins. what i liked most is he finishes strong. had a few blocks. lets see how he does in the team workouts to make our final verdict on him.
Russell Westbrook. Very, Very impressed with his play and competitiveness he looked one another level to the other players. he only played in Orlando but that's all we needed to see of him. his play-making abilities were outstanding. shot selection was very good at times but we did see some shots we question after, we also saw the good ol' reckless Westbrook we know at time but a quick timeout fixed that. we also saw how valuable he was to the team in Orlando when that last game he sat out. funny enough we lost that game.
thanks for reading.. comments would be appreciated positives and negatives ( don't hold back ;) )
