BJ Penn's Pool Jump Challenge

If you haven't seen BJ Penn's pool jump yet, you probably don't spend a lot of the time on "the internets."  It was, for example, one of the headlining stories on the Yahoo! homepage today.

Obviously people think it's a big deal that he can jump out of 3 feet of water on to the pool deck.

But the question is, exactly how hard is it to do this?

There's been so much fuss about this pool jump that I decided to do a little research myself.

So I went over to Youtube, and typed "pool jump" into the search bar, and came up with plenty of results.

It seems that apparently, it isn't all that hard to do after all, as there are quite a few videos of people performing the same feat, albeit they are all athletic-looking people, including one guy who claims to be on the Ohio State wrestling team.

There's a video of a guy named Delonte Stephens jumping 3.5 feet out of the pool. Obviously, this led to a bunch of controversy over the correct form when making a pool jump, including the proper stance, and limited arm movement.

There's even a video where the guy claims to be jumping out of 4 feet of water, but the video is hardly clear, and may be doctored.

However, I do feel like I've seen enough to know that the 3 feet deep pool jump, while not easy, can be accomplished by at least college-level athletes.

Hopefully the findings of my research will get to BJ Penn, thus irritating his notoriously massive ego.  Let's face it, BJ Penn's ego was obviously purchased at Costco.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.  It's his self-confidence and belief that have made him such a great fighter.

I hope BJ Penn sees the findings of my Youtube study as a challenge to post ever-more impressive physical feats online.

I'd challenge GSP to jump higher, but I don't think that will work with the adductor rehab.
