WWE SmackDown: Spoiler-Free Preview for October 3

Ryan DilbertOct 2, 2014

Feuds will interweave on the Oct. 3 edition of WWE SmackDown.

John Cena's bad blood with Seth Rollins once again leaks over into the story of Dean Ambrose and his former brother-in-arms. The Miz's faces his two recent enemies in the same match.

Cesaro, Paige and Slater Gator also step into the ring in the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

WWE taped all the action on Tuesday, but it won't air on Syfy until 8 p.m. ET on Friday night. That gives fans plenty of time to dig around the Internet and find out what happened early. For those who wish to wait, the following is a spoiler-free preview of a SmackDown with only a handful of matches scheduled.

Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus vs. The Miz and Damien Sandow

Is The Miz still in line for the Intercontinental Championship, or is the U.S. title next on his checklist? This match should help clear that up.

Look out for whoever he and Sandow focus their rage on. Attacking Ziggler before or after the match is a sign that their feud isn't over, but perhaps we'll see evidence that The Miz is simply moving on to Sheamus.

On Monday's Raw, the wanna-be A-lister had his stunt double take the punishment.

He won't have that chance on Friday's SmackDown. It will be The Miz and the man who mimics his every move up against a pair of champions.

Ziggler has been on a streak of great matches. He'll be looking to keep that going in Wisconsin.

Naomi vs. Paige

Paige needs an impressive showing to continue her path back to the Divas Championship. Naomi is looking for a signature win to get into the title-contention discussion.

The last time they met, Paige used the ropes to gain illegal leverage.

That should give Naomi added motivation going into this clash. She hasn't been featured that often as of late, with Paige, AJ Lee and The Bella Twins garnering the bulk of the attention.

A one-sided loss here points to her remaining away from the spotlight. A win signals a more upward trajectory.

The Usos vs. Slater Gator

Gold and Stardust sit atop the tag team division. The race to meet them doesn't have many entrants.

That means that every tag team win is huge.

For The Usos, this bout can help them cleanse their mouths of the taste of disappointment. On last week's SmackDown, they failed to recapture the tag titles from the bizarre brothers.

Titus O'Neil and Heath Slater, on the other hand, can get a winning streak going. They knocked off Los Matadores on Monday's Raw.

Hornswoggle appeared in a gator suit as their mascot. It will be interesting to see if that was just a one-time gag, or if Slater Gator has an ally for the long run.

Either way, the dysfunctional, underdog team promises to be fun to watch, especially going up against the high-flying former champs.

R-Truth vs. Cesaro

Revisiting a feud from early in Cesaro's WWE career, the little-used R-Truth gets an opportunity to face The King of Swing.

After missing out on chances to claim the Intercontinental Championship, Cesaro should be plenty fired up. He lost to Ziggler on last week's SmackDown, even though he was holding the bottom rope as the referee counted. He followed that up by coming within seconds of winning a Triple Threat match on Monday's Raw.

R-Truth can get people talking with an upset win here. Beating Cesaro is no career-maker, but it would be a highlight for a man who has had few of them lately.

Cesaro, meanwhile, will be looking to put himself back into contention for either midcard title.

John Cena and Dean Ambrose vs. Kane and Randy Orton

SmackDown gets a Raw rematch as The Authority once again tries to stop the two top babyfaces in the company. On Monday night, Seth Rollins, Orton and Kane left their enemies out cold, denting the Money in the Bank briefcase with their faces.

One has to expect Rollins will get involved again.

After Ambrose booby-trapped his briefcase, he is sure to be in search of payback. Cena and Ambrose would welcome his presence.

In his interview with Michael ColeCena said he is "gunning for Seth Rollins." That's just the latest hint that the Ambrose and Rollins feud is going to continue to overlap with Cena's story of revenge. What's less clear is how Orton and Kane will play into this and how they will factor in come Hell in a Cell.

This match looks as if it will provide some clarity on that situation.

At the very least, fans can hope for some hard-hitting action. Ambrose and Orton have good chemistry, producing some memorable bouts together lately.

Is this going to be another one? Will it be more obvious where WWE is heading with these narratives?

The chance to find out those answers, the appeal of Slater Gator and Sandow's portrayal of "Mizdow" offer a few reasons to make time to watch SmackDown unfold.
