Clemson Football: Game-by-Game Predictions for the Month of October
The Clemson Tigers are probably glad to see the month of September come to an end. After two disappointing losses to Georgia and Florida State, it’s time to turn the page to a new month. October will provide the opportunity to gain momentum and rhythm with three of the four games at home.
The Tigers will take on North Carolina State Saturday and then the focus will turn to Louisville, Boston College and Syracuse.
Let’s take a look at the predictions.
Vs. North Carolina State
1 of 4
The Wolfpack are coming off a near upset of top-ranked Florida State, so they have momentum. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is a dangerous athlete who can make game-changing plays, but it will be tough for North Carolina State to take down Clemson at home.
The Tigers gave up 35 points last Saturday to North Carolina, but the defense was very effective in the first half. The offense is playing lights out with Deshaun Watson at quarterback, and the Tigers shouldn’t have much trouble scoring points in this one either. The freshman signal-caller is coming off a performance where he threw for 435 yards and six touchdowns.
Prediction: Clemson 44, NC State 21
Vs. Louisville
2 of 4
The Cardinals are a tricky team to scout so far this season. They had a big win in the opener against Miami but didn’t look as great in the loss to Virginia or even in last week’s 20-10 victory over Wake Forest.
Bobby Petrino has led great offenses at Louisville and Arkansas in the past, but I still like Clemson’s chances here.
Louisville has been fairly inconsistent offensively through its first three conference games. The Cardinals had 421 yards of total offense against Wake Forest on Saturday but only totaled 282 versus Virginia. That starts with consistency at quarterback. Will Gardner is completing only 56.3 percent of his passes this season, including 20 incompletions against Virginia.
Prediction: Clemson 33, Louisville 21
At Boston College
3 of 4
We were all stunned a couple of weeks ago when Boston College upset Southern California, but how good are the Eagles?
After putting up 506 total yards against the Trojans, Boston College struggled last week in the 24-21 loss to Colorado State.
This will be a tough game for the Tigers either way, since Boston College usually offers a good matchup. Even last season at home, the Eagles stayed in that game before Clemson pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 10-point win.
Prediction: Clemson 34, Boston College 20
Vs. Syracuse
4 of 4
Clemson was able to defeat Syracuse handily a year ago, and we should expect the same outcome this time around.
The Tigers defense forced Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt into three interceptions last season, and with this game being at home, the pressure from Clemson’s defensive line should once again be a big factor.
Hunt has only completed 58.4 percent of his passes this season and has thrown one touchdown in four games. The Tigers will get the win at home here.
Prediction: Clemson 41, Syracuse 17
