WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from September 30

The Doctor Chris MuellerSep 30, 2014

Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.

After a very tepid episode of Raw, Main Event managed to deliver a little bit of relief. Not all the action was top-notch, but some of the people who were showcased definitely benefited in the end.

This was a typical four-match hour for Main Event. Two of the matches were average or better, one was just an excuse to extend a storyline and the last was just one long beating.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's Main Event.

Jack Swagger vs. Cesaro

The former Real Americans teammates squared off in the first match of the night. These two have been in the ring together so many times, so they have built up a lot of chemistry.

The pace was steady throughout the match. Nobody really had control for a significant amount of time, making it seem much more competitive than some of the other one-sided bouts we have seen lately.

Swagger looked like he was going to win when he had Cesaro in the Patriot Lock, but Cesaro was able to break out, poke Swagger in the eye and hit a huge uppercut for the win.

Winner: Cesaro

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights:

  • Cesaro told a "Dad joke" during a promo about the difference between a battery and the Real Americans being that a battery has a positive side.
  • One of the great things about Cesaro is that he doesn't use the most common holds. He always finds ways to differentiate himself from the rest of the roster.
  • Why can't WWE just give Swagger a good win? Beating Cesaro would have helped him so much more than defeating Swagger helped Cesaro at this point.

Twitter Reaction:

Tyson Kidd vs. Kofi Kingston

Natalya was shown asking Kane to put Tyson Kidd in a match backstage when Kidd walked in and got upset that she was doing what he should be doing for himself. Kane got upset at the drama and immediately ordered Kidd to head to the ring.

You would think Kane would have punished Kidd by putting him in a match with someone like Rusev, but he ended up facing Kofi Kingston, who is not exactly a threat to anyone these days.

They had a good back-and-forth match that showcased some of their high-flying skills. It really looked like either one of them could get the win at any moment.

Kidd tried resorting to cheap tactics, but he got upset when Natalya refused to help him cheat behind the ref's back. Despite this, Kidd was able to pick up his first win outside of NXT in months by making Kofi tap out to the Sharpshooter.

Winner: Tyson Kidd

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights:

  • WWE has effectively castrated Kidd. He has so much talent, but they are booking him as a disgruntled husband because his wife has a storyline on Total Divas.
  • With that said, Kidd does an excellent job playing the role. He even hid behind his wife to protect himself from Kofi flying over the top rope at him.
  • Nobody should take this to mean Kidd is getting a push on the main roster. This was more about promoting their situation on Total Divas than it was about promoting Kidd, which is very sad.

Twitter Reaction:

Summer Rae and Layla vs. Brie Bella

Brie Bella was able to pick up her second handicap match victory in two days by defeating Summer Rae and Layla.

Despite the match being pretty mediocre, it was still way better than some of the garbage we saw from the Divas division on Raw. Not much more to say about this one.

Winner: Brie Bella

Grade: C-

Notes and Highlights:

  • Brie was wearing a shirt that said "Support the Twins." Somehow, I don't think it was talking about her and Nikki.
  • Nikki and her ridiculous cleavage were shown watching from backstage.
  • Summer and Layla should call their team "Rae and Lay". It just seems too obvious for WWE not have done it by now.
  • It looks like heels wear black shirts and babyfaces wear pink shirts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Twitter Reaction:

Mark Henry vs. Bo Dallas

Mark Henry gave an interview earlier in the evening in which he said he was going to throw Dallas like a lawn dart. Dallas tried to give a promo before the match, but it was interrupted by Henry's entrance.

Henry was on a mission to destroy Dallas, and that is exactly what he did. In fact, he was so brutal that the ref had to disqualify him for not letting up while he was beating Dallas in the corner.

Henry ended up continuing the attack after the match was over by hitting two World's Strongest Slams. He grabbed a mic and mocked Dallas' signature catchphrase afterwards.

It's hard to tell if WWE is trying to turn him heel since his aggression is being focused toward another heel. Either way, it was entertaining to watch—it's just a shame the beating didn't last longer.

Winner: Bo Dallas

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights:

  • Before the match got started, Michael Cole showed a clip of Big Show tearing down the Russian flag on Raw and said WWE had issued a statement apologizing to the people of Russia. Everyone knows that if you want to say you're sorry for something, the best way to do it is to show the offending incident again in slow motion.
  • Listening to Henry talk trash during his matches never gets old.
  • Bo Dallas looked like he was concussed when the match was over. The fact that he wasn't shows that this kid can sell pretty well.
