Scott PolacekSep 29, 2014

Travis Kelce may have been a relative unknown among fantasy football circles heading into Week 4’s contest against the New England Patriots, but that won’t be the case after his performance Monday.

He helped set up multiple scoring drives in the first half and even found the end zone himself in the second half. He certainly made sure those that took a chance by putting Kelce in their fantasy lineups received the benefits Monday night, and the team-high nine targets are encouraging moving forward.

Albert Breer of NFL.com was certainly impressed during the proceedings:

While Kelce was formidable Monday, his ultimate fantasy value is tied directly to the performance of his teammates. For one, the Kansas City Chiefs like to run the ball, which was on full display Monday with Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. An increased focus on the rushing attack could limit Kelce’s value in future games.

What’s more, Alex Smith is not exactly a case study in consistency (one touchdown and three interceptions in Week 1, zero touchdowns in Week 2 and three touchdowns and zero interceptions in Week 3), which could mean Kelce is a boom-or-bust type of player on a weekly basis.

Still, if he continues to perform like he did Monday, he will be on the radar of plenty of fantasy football owners in the near future.
