Let's take a look at AC Milan's best players so far this season. One is Nigel De Jong, and that is excepted. He is the soul of this team, and he really should be captain.
The other is unexpected. Ignazio Abate has long been the team's starting right-back but to little effect. Already this season he has four assists—a career high in any single season—and he is running with purpose.
Unfortunately, both players are running on the last years of their contract.
"There is time," Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said last week, per Sky Sports. "They won’t escape."
Galliani is pretty confident, but he is playing a risky game.

Juventus Are Looking at Ignazio Abate

All of a sudden, Abate is a hot commodity.
It is a weird situation. The 27-year-old was never a particularly trustworthy full-back. He could defend but he could not cross the ball or attack in any positive way.
Well, apparently now he can.
Abate has almost been playing like a veritable right winger, finding players with great passes. So naturally, Juventus would like him.
According to Mediaset (h/t Forza Italian Football), the three-time Italian champions are monitoring Abate in the event that their own full-back leaves. Stephan Lichtsteiner is 30, and his contract also expires next summer. Juventus could step in and grab Abate as a replacement.
Abate will be a free agent in the summer if Milan don't act.
Yevhen Konoplyanka on a Free Transfer?

Milan were hoping to sign another winger this past summer, but Alessio Cerci was too expensive.
Maybe Yevhen Konoplyanka is the answer. After all, he could come for free.
Konoplyanka is a 25-year-old winger for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, and according to Sky Sport Italia (h/t Forza Italian Football) the Ukrainian is angling for a move to Italy. Inter are also interested.
Konoplyanka was close to joining Liverpool, but the move never materialized.
His contract with Dnipro ends in June.
