Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of September 29

Sam RookeSep 29, 2014

Tottenham's encouraging performance in the north London derby suggests that Mauricio Pochettino is finding the strengths in his squad.

However, Spurs are without a win in their last four Premier League matches and still clearly suffering from some key weaknesses.

Centre-forward remains the No. 1 problem position for Spurs, and Emmanuel Adebayor's indifferent form continued during the derby.

Kyle Walker's continued absence means that right-back is also a position of weakness, though Kyle Naughton gave a competent performance against Arsenal. He is an ideal understudy.

Gabbiadini Emerges Again

1 of 3

Tottenham were tentatively linked with Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini during the summer transfer window. Those links have emerged once more with greater strength following a solid start to the season for the Sampdoria man.

Gabbiadini has scored three goals already this season and, as a young player, he has plenty of room for improvement. He has been around for several years and it is easy to forget that he's still only 22 years old.

Juventus retain 50% of his ownership rights though, and that may complicate any potential deal.

Jay Rodriguez Bid Imminent Once Again?

2 of 3

Former Tottenham defender Chris Perry has told talkSPORT the club will return to Southampton with a bid for striker Jay Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the forward in the summer but a transfer failed to materialise.

If Pochettino can successfully reunite with his former Saints player, it will give Spurs a flexible and effective forward who would supplement their somewhat sparse striking options.

Emmanuel Adebayor has struggled so far this season, while Roberto Soldado has had injuries and received few chances to impress.

Jackson Martinez to Fill Spurs' Striker Hole?

3 of 3

Porto striker Jackson Martinez has long been linked with a move to a major European league. The Colombian international is currently enjoying a third successful season in Portugal. However, at age 27, his window to make his move may be closing.

According to Spanish website Fichajes.net (via Fanatix.com), Spurs currently head the queue to sign the prolific forward.

Having scored 60 goals during his first two years in Portugal, Martinez would be a brilliant signing for Spurs. As long as they don't have to break the bank to get him, the Colombian would significantly bolster Spurs' attack.
