Nick Foles, Jeremy Maclin's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 4

Sean ODonnellSep 28, 2014

The Philadelphia Eagles offense produced a rather forgettable game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Quarterback Nick Foles constantly found himself under pressure without his usual offensive linemen in the fold, and the team's running game suffered as a result, throwing off the offense's balance.

San Francisco's secondary played very well against Philadelphia's wide receivers, but Jeremy Maclin was able to find a little room to maneuver. Here's a look at how Foles and Maclin fared at Levi's Stadium:

After accumulating three 300-plus-yard performances to start the season against softer defenses, Foles came back down to earth against a formidable unit. Once again, he struggled in the first half, but this time he was unable to make up for it later in the game.

It was difficult to pinpoint Foles' inaccuracy issues on Sunday, and a tweet from NFL Philosophy captured his overall performance:

Still, one average week doesn't mean fantasy owners should begin to panic. Foles was in a bad situation from the onset of Sunday's game—on the road against a good defense with a patchwork offensive line. Philadelphia has favorable matchups on the horizon—only three of the team's remaining opponents are ranked in the top half of the league against the pass—and Foles should still be considered worthy of a QB1 status.

Maclin was instrumental in creating what little success his quarterback was able to produce in San Francisco. He was targeted a team-high 16 times—which should be comforting to fantasy owners—and came away with 68 yards, including a beautiful one-handed reception down the sideline to keep a late drive alive.

NFL on ESPN summed up his impressive grab perfectly:

As long as Maclin is considered the No. 1 option in Chip Kelly's high-octane offense, he should be considered a solid WR1 in all fantasy formats.
