Trent Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 4

Andrew GouldSep 28, 2014

Ahmad Bradshaw is the Indianapolis Colts' best running back by a mile, but Trent Richardson won't fully go away, limiting the former's fantasy upside.

Despite entering Week 4's clash against the Tennessee Titans with 6.0 yards per carry and three receiving touchdowns, Bradshaw took a back seat Richardson, who punched in a one-yard touchdown during the Colts' 41-17 victory.

Coach Chuck Pagano told ESPN.com's Mike Wells that he sees a different Richardson this season.

“I think probably the biggest thing is when you have success, you gain confidence,” Pagano said. “He’s not thinking out there. He’s just playing the game. We are playing a kid’s game. We talk about it all the time. That’s all he’s doing. He’s not thinking, he’s reacting."

Bradshaw looked poised to run away with more snaps, but Richardson continues to get touches. ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky explained why it behooves the Colts to give Bradshaw more playing time.

Yet the team is still eager to show it didn't flush a first-round pick down by the drain by trading it for the former Alabama rusher last season. Even though Bradshaw is strong enough to handle goal-line carries, Richardson will probably vulture a few more of those precious attempts along the line.

Bradshaw still remains the running back fantasy owners should own and start. Despite his sluggish start against Tennessee, he's an effective runner with 4.6 career yards per carry, and his pass-catching prowess bolsters him to a solid No. 2 fantasy back.

As for Richardson, even if he gets more handoffs than his running mate, he has little of them throughout his disappointing career. At best, he steals some more short scores, making him an option for desperate owners when he has a beneficial matchup.
