UFC 178 Results: 3 Fights to Make for Chris Cariaso

James MacDonaldSep 28, 2014

Chris Cariaso may have been outclassed by flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 178, but the 33-year-old still has plenty to offer the division.

It’s unlikely he will ever make it back into the title picture, given how soundly he was beaten by the champion. However, he could function as a gatekeeper of sorts for the next few years.

Read on for some potential future opponents for Cariaso.

Justin Scoggins

1 of 3

Justin Scoggins is undoubtedly one of the brightest prospects in the flyweight division.

Unfortunately, he’s had a rough last couple of outings, losing a close decision to Dustin Ortiz and recently losing by submission to John Moraga in a fight that he had largely dominated.

With Scoggins having fought as recently as this month, the timing makes sense for a bout with Cariaso in the near future.

Zach Makovsky

2 of 3

The No. 9-ranked Zach Makovsky is only a month removed from a fairly competitive loss to the talented Jussier Formiga.

With both men coming off recent losses, matching up the pair would appear to make sense for UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby.

Cariaso could prove to be an excellent test for the former Bellator bantamweight champion, who likely still harbors title ambitions.

Tim Elliott

3 of 3

The No. 10-ranked Tim Elliott was scheduled to take on Wilson Reis at last month’s UFC Fight Night 49 but was forced to pull out due to injury.

The flyweight division’s resident wildman is coming off two losses and will be looking to secure his spot on the UFC roster next time out. With both men looking to rebound, a fight between the pair makes sense.

Unfortunately, there is currently no timetable for Elliott’s return to action.
