Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 4

Sean ODonnellSep 28, 2014

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton continued to show excellent rapport with rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Midway through the first quarter, the duo hooked up for a 28-yard score in the corner of the end zone that tied the game at seven.

After the 6'5" rookie hauled in his third touchdown of the season, Doug Gottlieb of CBS Sports issued his short take on the receiver:

The duo connected four more times throughout the remainder of Sunday's contest, resulting in these stat lines:

Kelvin Benjamin597615.2281

Benjamin's nine targets was a team high, as he continues to gain chemistry with Newton. He appears more comfortable by the week and is quickly rising to must-start status for fantasy owners.

Newton looked composed early in his Week 5 contest against the Ravens; however, the lack of a running game following a DeAngelo Williams injury hindered his production. Newton's numbers through the air weren't bad, but fantasy owners still haven't seen the quarterback run much this season, slightly hurting his value.

Mike Clay of Pro Football Focus noticed this as well:

Fantasy owners should remain patient with Newton, as he is still only three weeks removed from a rib injury. A favorable Week 5 matchup against a shaky Chicago Bears secondary should help.
