Atlanta Falcons: Just Wait Until 2010...

Steve JonesSep 17, 2007

IconGo ahead and get all of your cheap shots in while you can, but you had better believe that it wont last very long; To all of you haters: just wait till 2010. The Atlanta Falcons might not win another game through the 2009 season, but the rest of the league had better watch out for that 2010 team.

By 2010, John Abraham will be standing on the sideline with a walker, Joey Harrington will be doing his PR crap about "whatever helps the team win, I'll do," and Deangelo Falls?

Well he'll still be acting like primetime, and still getting roasted by Chad Johnson among others.

In all reality, the falcons are the worst team in the league this season, and most people want to point the finger at Michael Vick.

Well wake up, people.

Michael Vick was not bringing in our usual over-paid, underacheiving talent... the likes of: WR P. Price, LB Ed Hartwell, John Abraham, and the list goes on.

The Atlanta Falcons have never had back-to-back winning seasons and never been able to make the playoffs two years in a row. Well, that streak more than likely won't have another legitimate chance until either 2009 or 2010. Everyone wants to put the blame on Michael Vick, but he was not our problem. Sometime around Jim Mora's first year with the team, the Falcons brought in the infamous Rich Mckay, who had done a fabulous job with Tampa Bay.

The man was brilliant and he would surely start our Dynasty run. In fact, after Jamal Anderson got hurt in 1999, the team vowed never to build a team around one player.

And then look at what the smartest GM in the league did.

After years of pathetic drafts and overpayed free agents, this Falcons team is arguably the worst team they have ever had.

You can blame Jim Mora all you want, and he did a terrible job of game planning, and brought in the infamous Gregg NAT. But Rich Mckay's job is to direct player personnel, and it is his job to put the team together, not the head coach's. The head coach is supposed to use what he is given, but you have to give him something he can work with.

To Arthur Blank and Rich Mckay: you have done a lousy job on behalf of the entire city of Atlanta. Our city thanks you for destroying everything that Dan Reeves had put in place and the team that he was building.  Dan told you not to go get Peerless Price, yet you didn't listen. I am sure he would have told you not to get John Abraham, but you sure wanted that injury-prone player who missed most of last season.

On somewhat of a brighter note: I like what Bobby Petrino is doing with the team, and I like the team that he is building. The DB and DE we got from Arkansas look like they can be the real deal, and they like to put pressure on opposing players; In fact, they look excellent so far. Hopefully we can add some real linebackers, and we need a replacement for Keith Brooking (and we should send him to a winning team). He has paid his dues and stuck with a historically miserable franchise and deserves better.

Our offensive line has given up somewhere near 11 sacks so far this season and we are only in week two. Justin Blalock has been the only bright spot on the offensive line, but only because he is a rookie and could develop into a good player. Joe Horn is over the hill, and Roddy White and Michael Jenkins are not developing like they were supposed to.

Although Laurence Robinson shows potiental, we need a play maker at reciever.

Final thought, the more I watch that Andre' Woodson guy, the more I can't help but love his poise and composure. He uses great touch, slows the game down very well, and makes good reads. He has a strong arm and is a little bigger and more athletic than the front-runner for our QB problem, Brian Brohm. I think he would be a nice fit in Atlanta. I love that he has a quick release is not afraid to throw the ball down the field. If we can get him and a bulldozer of a running back (to play behind Jarrius Norwood), then we could be a good team.

The rest of the league had better enjoy not being last for now. But just wait until 2010.

As for now it appears that Atlanta is back to being "Loserville, USA," because the Braves have surrendered the division to the Mets and the Hawks are just the Hawks.
