WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Sept. 22

Ryan DilbertSep 26, 2014

WWE's best social media traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, WCW and the world of video games.

A legendary announcer posed for a pic. WWE reflected on the past. A peek at WWE 2K15 stirred up interest.

New titleholders crowned at Night of Champions joined in the fun of being the center of the top tweets, Instagram photos and viral videos as well.

We start first, though, with an unlikely subject—Owen Hart. WWE tends to not mention the late wrestler, his name bringing up memories of controversy and tragedy.

In a new Five Things video, the company didn't shy away from honoring Hart's legacy, although it was a part of that legacy that most fans don't remember. Tom Phillips introduced a number of WWE stars who appeared for WCW:

Seeing Hart in WCW is surreal but not as much as seeing a spry Rob Van Dam without any airbrushed designs on his ring gear.

Steve Austin once worked for that now-defunct company, teaming with Brian Pillman and putting on some memorable matches against Ricky Steamboat and others. Fans are more concerned, though, with his future matches now than his old ones.

Every year, rumors of The Texas Rattlesnake making a comeback seem to surface.

They have done just that once again, and there is buzz aplenty on the Internet about it. Austin responded with his tongue firmly in his cheek. He tweeted about the WrestleMania 31 match he jokingly said he is signed for:

That doesn't sound half-bad, actually. It would definitely be better than Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon from WrestleMania 26, but then again, what wouldn't be?

Austin spent some time in Memphis before making it big. That city has a long, rich history with wrestling. Legendary announcer Lance Russell had a lot to do with that.

WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts had a chance to meet Russell during the company's recent stops in Tennessee. He shared a shot of the two of them on Instagram:

Before Memphis hosted Raw, Nashville did the same for Night of Champions. The pay-per-view left fans with plenty to talk about, both good and bad. One of the bigger stories to come out of that event was that three new titleholders emerged from it.

Goldust and Stardust knocked off The Usos that night.

The bizarre brothers celebrated backstage. An Instagram photo captured their emotions (and their quirkiness) after the win:

AJ Lee became Divas champ once more after defeating Paige. Even though that title has been passed back and forth too much as of late, she managed to make it clear how much the win meant to her.

This shot of her on Instagram tells a better story than her rivalry with Paige on TV has:

There is clear passion there, something that elevates the work wrestlers do each night. That's something that Dean Ambrose has in excess.

He was one of the most compelling performers during the entire week, whether it was during his return from hiatus or finding a way to escape Triple H locking him in a closet.

Ambrose somehow slipped out of confinement and popped out of a black box, ready to attack Seth Rollins yet again.

The WWE Universe Twitter account had an amusing theory about how he managed to pull it off. After all, it worked in Metal Gear Solid:

The video game that was most on WWE fans' minds was WWE 2K15. Info on the upcoming title has been sparse so far, but a new trailer gave some mighty impressive glimpses of it:

That's not exactly the surprise fans were hoping for when WWE tweeted that we should prepare for the next generation, but those are definitely some handsome-looking graphics.

That game is the only place where Austin is guaranteed a WrestleMania match. Have him take on Ambrose or Goldust, or if one is good enough at working the creation suite, perhaps a collision with the Loch Ness Monster is on the horizon.
