Barcelona Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of September 29

Jason PettigroveSep 28, 2014

Barcelona head into another Champions League week off the back of a superb win against Granada, with Sergi Roberto having committed his future to the Catalans for another five years.

With no goals conceded and every squad member playing a part so far this season, no one appears to be overly concerned about the transfer embargo that will last another 15 months.

The vibe is entirely positive in Catalonia, and there could be some more good news just around the corner.

Let's take a look at the transfer rumours from the last day or two. Remember to keep checking back throughout the week for updates.

Pedro Rodriguez

Pedro Rodriguez could be the next big name to leave Barca, possibly as soon as the January transfer window.

Anthony Chapman of the Daily Express has noted that the Catalans have put a £25 million price tag on Pedro's head, and Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all showing interest in the player.

Unhappy with the lack of minutes at present, Pedro's role is likely to become ever more peripheral once Luis Suarez is ready to play in three weeks time.

Xavi Hernandez

Will Xavi leave Barca in January?

Xavi Hernandez is one unhappy man.

Speaking to reporters in the wake of the Champions League defeat in Paris, he told reporters, h/t Anthony Chapman of the Daily Express:

"

I am not comfortable as a reserve.

I want to play more and change the situation, although the team comes first and it is the coach who decides.

I just have to take advantage of the minute given to me. It's a tragic situation but I want to reverse it and feel more useful.

"

Chapman notes that a January move to Manchester United could well be on the cards if the situation doesn't improve.

Dani Alves

Dani Alves is off to play in England.

This will be Dani Alves' last season at Barcelona, according to the player himself.

Alves told O Globo h/t James Phillips of Metro that:

"Next year I’m moving to England. I’m going to play at the home of football. This will be my last season at the club."

It's unclear at this stage exactly which club the Brazilian will pitch up at, but there are surely to be no shortage of takers.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is going nowhere.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been forced to come out and deny once again that Lionel Messi is on the move.

Noting further reported interest from Chelsea, the president told reporters, via Sky Sports:

"

The window is now closed and nobody is talking about new signings any more.

The possibility of Messi moving keeps coming up, but we haven’t considered it.

He’s very happy here and we’ll have Messi for many years. I hope he’ll retire at our club.

"

Such a statement should be clear enough to ward off any potential suitors in the near future.

Munir El Haddadi

Chelsea and Arsenal will not be able to sign Munir.

Munir El Haddadi is set to disappoint a whole host of clubs by committing his future to Barcelona.

According to Sport (via talkSPORT), the player's former agent, Antonio Gabaldon, noted: "Munir is happy at Barcelona. He wants to stay. There will be no problem to negotiate."

Any new contract would presumably leave the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea looking elsewhere.

Despite allegedly having a €118 million bid turned down for the purchase of Lionel Messi, Chelsea it would seem have not been deterred.

Quoting sources from Spanish radio, football agent and journalist Philip Harmeling (h/t Metro) claims Roman Abramovich will return next summer with an incredible offer of €150 million, dwarfing the current world-record transfer fee.

The Blues were firmly sent packing last time, but can Barca really afford to turn down that sort of money?

Dani Alves

Barca are preparing a contract extension for Dani Alves.
Barca are preparing a contract extension for Dani Alves.

Dani Alves could well have been plying his trade elsewhere if certain things had come to pass in the last transfer window.

Now, on the back of some sparkling form this season, it appears he could be staying for longer than first thought.

According to Fichajes.net (in Spanish), Spanish radio station Onda Cero (via Soccer News) have noted that Barca are preparing to offer their right-back an extended deal.

It's a big turnaround in fortunes for the Brazilian but no one can deny that he would be worth the extension on current form.
