See All 7 of Manchester City's Second-Half Goals Against Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday held Manchester City to a goalless first half in their League Cup tie on Wednesday.

This was an impressive feat, but the Premier League champions and League Cup holders put on an utterly ruthless display after the break, putting seven past the Owls.

Frank Lampard started proceedings by scoring his second goal of the week from a James Milner cross shortly after the restart (see above).

In the 53rd minute, Edin Dzeko doubled the advantage with a neat first-time finish:

Just over a minute later, Jesus Navas scored what might have been the best goal of the evening with a powerful right-footed shot:

Yaya Toure then put the game out of reach at 4-0 from the penalty spot. It was given for a foul on Lampard for which Kamil Zayatte was shown a red card.

At this point, the visitors' defence appeared to have given up hope, as they let a completely unmarked Dzeko score his second of the evening with a header from a few yards out:

In the 77th minute, substitute Jose Pozo got in on the act to make it 6-0 by connecting with a Navas cross to give a near carbon copy of Dzeko's first goal:

Deep into injury time, Lampard then finished off the decimation with his second of the evening, a toe poke on an Aleksandar Kolarov cross:

And so the Citizens' defence of their League Cup leads them into the fourth round of the competition.
