John Cena Defeats Brock Lesnar by DQ at Night of Champions

WWE World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and John Cena locked horns in a rematch at Night of Champions after the Beast Incarnate won in dominant fashion at SummerSlam. The result was much different this time around as Cena prevailed, but the title did not change hands, since Seth Rollins' interference prompted a disqualification.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Was This Match Booked Correctly?

Although Lesnar was viewed as the favorite entering Night of Champions, due to the beating he put on Cena one month earlier, there was definitely some degree of doubt. WWE didn't waste any time re-establishing Cena's credibility, and he was made to look extremely strong during the build toward Night of Champions. It quickly became apparent at the pay-per-view that WWE didn't intend to have Cena get dominated twice in a row.

The challenger came out firing and managed to hit the Conquerer with an Attitude Adjustment early on, much like Lesnar gave Cena an F-5 at the start of their SummerSlam match. The NoC bout was fairly competitive, but there is no question that Cena got the better of Lesnar. He was able to execute multiple Attitude Adjustments and had Lesnar trapped in the STF as well. Just when it looked like Cena was on the verge of regaining the title, though, Mr. Money in the Bank made his presence felt.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

While the match itself was solid, it is difficult to applaud the manner in which it was booked. For starters, Cena's ability to go from getting destroyed at SummerSlam to nearly winning was pretty unrealistic. The viewers were essentially made to believe that Cena would have won if not for Rollins' involvement, which is somewhat ludicrous. WWE has worked hard to make Lesnar look like an unstoppable monster, and it was counterproductive to have Cena show him up. Even though Lesnar didn't lose the title, some of his luster was certainly lost at the pay-per-view.

Even more perplexing than that, though, was Rollins' interference. After hitting Cena with his briefcase, Rollins proceeded to Curb Stomp Lesnar and was prepared to cash in. Cena foiled his attempt, though, which sent Rollins scurrying. Rollins going after Lesnar makes little sense because of Lesnar's physical stature and also because Lesnar has basically been endorsed by Triple H and the Authority.

It would have made more sense for Rollins to allow Cena to win before cashing in on him, since that would be a far more winnable match. When push came to shove, WWE wanted Lesnar to keep the title while making Cena look strong. That mission was accomplished, but it happened in a nonsensical manner.

Dean Ambrose Returns to WWE Programming at Night of Champions

With Roman Reigns being forced to miss Night of Champions due to emergency hernia surgery, WWE was put in a tough position. The match between Rollins and Reigns was no longer on the table, but an important spot on the card needed to be filled. As expected by many, that led to the return of Dean Ambrose. Ambrose attacked Rollins and re-ignited a feud that has been ongoing since Rollins turned his back on the Shield early in the summer.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is Ambrose In Line for a Big Push?

Ambrose received the biggest pop of the night at the pay-per-view when he arrived in a taxi cab and proceeded to take the fight to his former friend. Obviously pleased with his performance, the creative team decided to have him lead off the ensuing episode of Raw. Ambrose cut a solid promo before being interrupted by Cena. In typical anti-hero fashion, Ambrose offered a word of warning to Cena for cutting him off.

Interacting with the company's biggest star was an endorsement of Ambrose to some degree, but it also foreshadowed what could be a compelling feud at some point down the line. Ambrose may ultimately have his most success as a heel, but he has been much better than expected as a face. With Reigns and Daniel Bryan currently on the shelf, there is most definitely an open slot behind Cena as the No. 2 face. For now, every indication is that WWE intends to use the Lunatic Fringe in that position.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Wrestling purists have long seen immense potential in Ambrose as a top guy, and it seems as though WWE has come to that same realization. Although Ambrose's push may be coming out of necessity, he wouldn't be the first guy to take the ball and run with it while others are on the shelf with injuries. Ambrose truly is the total package in terms of work in the ring and on the mic, as well as character development. With that said, there is reason to believe he is only keeping the seat warm as the No. 2 face for now.

It remains to be seen when Reigns and Bryan will be back in action, but there is every indication they could both return by the Royal Rumble at the latest. They would be the co-favorites to win that match and go on to potentially face Lesnar at WrestleMania. Cena would undoubtedly be high up on the card as well, which would push Ambrose down closer to the midcard.

That notion may upset Ambrose's hardcore fans, but he is so talented that it is only a matter of time before he cracks the seal on the main event scene for good. If nothing else, the next couple months will be good for Ambrose in terms of getting a taste of what it's like to be a top guy. When the time comes for him to take that spot permanently, he'll be more than ready.

RRR Interview with TNA's Robbie E

Many wrestlers have become successful crossover stars in recent years, and TNA's Robbie E is looking to become the latest. The former TNA Tag Team, X-Division and Television champion is set to appear on the 25th season of CBS' The Amazing Race this fall with girlfriend and fellow Impact Wrestling star Brooke Adams. Robbie recently joined Ring Rust Radio to talk about the show as well as his future with TNA.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What's Next for Robbie E?

Robbie E is known as one of the quirkiest and most over-the-top wrestlers in the business today. His Jersey Shore-esque gimmick has kept him relevant since he joined TNA in 2010, and it is likely big reason why he appealed to those in charge of casting for The Amazing Race. Robbie admitted that he and Brooke are a great fit for reality television.

"

When you think of me and when you think of Brooke, you think of two of the wildest and craziest people in wrestling. I think we are perfect for reality TV. We are the perfect two people to race around the world and do a whole bunch of crazy stuff. It is going to be a wild and exciting 12 weeks. You're going to see Robbie E do things you probably didn't think he would ever be willing to do.

"

While The Amazing Race will be a new experience for Robbie, he and Brooke may have an advantage over some of the other competitors because they have traveled the world as professional wrestlers. It will be interesting to see if that is enough for Robbie to have success and potentially win it all this fall.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

In addition to The Amazing Race, Robbie remains busy with TNA. He is currently part of The BroMans with Jessie Godderz and DJ Z, and he is a comedic staple on Impact Wrestling nearly every week. Robbie acknowledges that he has defied the odds by lasting this long at TNA, and he intends to remain with the company over the long haul.

"

The records speak for themselves and the longevity speaks for itself. I've been here four years and wrestling is constantly changing. I remember when I started in TNA; the locker room I was in, about 95 percent of those guys are gone now. [If] you would have looked at it, they probably would have said Robbie E would have been one of the early ones out. I'm still here, and I'm not going anywhere. That proves right there that I deserve to be where I am at.

"

Having success as a comedic character in wrestling is something that not everyone is capable of, but Robbie E has thrived in that role. Getting more exposure as part of The Amazing Race will only help his profile within TNA, and it will be interesting to see what type of impact it has on his career moving forward.
